Has anyone bought a car through Carvana?

So, we're looking to upgrade our 2012 Buick Enclave. Been looking at similar 2017-19 Enclaves online. Found a beautiful '18 on Carvana with all the options we want. Privately owned. Ad doesn't say where the car is located. Carvana delivers the vehicle to the buyer. Bothers me because we can't look at it, plus not knowing where it is. Upside is, it's a lot less expensive than going through a dealership.

Anyone had any experience with this type of purchase? Good, bad, whatever.

I haven't , but I never would buy a car without seeing it, driving it. You will know nothing about it! I wouldnt be comfortable doing that. Not referring to you, but these places are set up for lazyazz people who cant get off thier azzes to even look at vehicle. Too busy on facebook or snap chat

How do you know it was privately owned? I was looking at some Mustangs on Carvana. I suspect they may have been rentals because of the miles on them.

I once had my eye on a newer Honda Accord awhile back from a private owner. When I finally contacted the guy, he said Carvana had just picked up the car earlier. So he sold it to them

I won't consider a late model car if I can't see, touch, or drive it first. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I also like to support our local franchised dealerships. Dealerships do a lot for their local community, charities, and employ local working people to well paying jobs.

I agree with all the above. I'm old-school, want to see it, inspect it, drive it.

Just curious as to what you guys think. Keep the thoughts coming.....

I almost bought a Mercedes on Carvana.... then I saw how much more they were charging than a conventional stealership (3k to 5k difference) and decided not to buy from them (either buy through stealership or privately sold).

Be vewy, vewy careful! Had a customer come into the dealership with a pretty nice looking '18 Explorer he'd just bought from them, and the hinges on the rear gate were rusting off the body. Underneath, it looked like it had gone down on the Titanic. He ultimately took it back within their 5 or 7 day return time.

IIRC, with Carvana, you have 7 days to complete your sale. that should be ample time to give it a good road test!!

Yeah, I was in the car business for many years and heard it all. There are a lot of sayings about dealers and car sales people. Theres also reason why car industry came up with the saying buyers are liars.

Yes this is true. Up to the 7th day after you take possession of the car, you can return it for a full refund. The only money you won't get back is if your local Carvana didn't have the car you wanted, and you found it at an out of state carvana location, and paid to have it shipped to your local one. In that case, you wouldn't be refunded the cost for the shipping that you paid. I never bought a car from Carvana, but I had one picked out, and I almost did, (just decided not to spend the $$).

I use to go past a used car lot whenever I would visit my mother down in Ashland, KY. The name of the place is Lying Lee's used cars

I still laugh whenever I think of that place, wish I had stopped in just to talk to Lee. I got to admit, the catchy name did it's job, 15 yrs later I still remember that place.

The irony is that ol Lee was probably a straight up guy!

In 38 years in the service end of the dealership business, I only worked (almost) for one sketchy store. I was offered a job but declined it due to things I'd heard about them.

As an aside, I was talking to my service manager about our policy expense for June (policy is what we give away for customer satisfaction, covering things the factory won't that we think should have been covered, rentals for people, etc) We are fairly small Ford store, do about $400K per month in service gross, and we had a policy expense of almost $10,000. So much for being thieves...
