1963 Corvette Z06 Rescued...

Apparently, this one has been sitting in a wrecking yard since the 70s:

I wonder who wouldn't know that wasn't a desirable car.

These "rescues" and "barn find" articles are getting out of control.

Re: 1963 Corvette Z06 Rescued...

Many junkyards are run by hoarders, this was probably one of them.

The author should have said where it was found, not necessarily the name of the yard, but the state or area of the country.

You mean the two '69 ZL1's. There were several more than two '69 L88's built.

Even if you didn't know it was a Z06, why would ANYONE throw away a 63 Corvette?

I don't believe that itsat in a yard all those years without the extremely rare split window trim being sold/bought or stolen. Repro 63 Split Window Trim

Is there original documentation that it was a Z06?

Says it was placed there around 1971? And its obviously been modified, and wrecked... Basically worthless back then...

Not sure on the Corvettes and how to verify if its a true Z06 or not, but even in the late 90's, you could find 63 split windows in the mid-to-high teens (projects, but better condition than this one)... I still kick myself for not picking up a project 63 back then; out of college and working, not married yet, and I was looking at a couple locally... One was running/driving with a strong 454, but the owner wanted $15k... That was more than I had on hand, and I was also working on my '66 Chevelle convertible... The other one I looks at had the wheels wells enlarged (just like the subject car here), but no engine/trans... I think it was around $13k...

Then the prices just took off... Still looking for any decent project C2, but even those are ridiculously high (IMO)...

Re: 1963 Corvette Z06 Rescued...

I'm sure the yard owner knew it was there or it would have been crushed years ago. It was probably stolen and hidden and then the right person got old and died so they could 'find it' again. None of these barn finds are lost. They are just hidden so people will stop asking to buy it.

Re: 1963 Corvette Z06 Rescued...

I bought a numbers matching 1964 Corvette 365 hp roadster in 1984 for $8500. It was daytona blue , 4 speed with leather interior. I sold it in 2012 to buy my 70 Chevelle SS 396.

Not every story is nefarious... I have a '69 SS396 Chevelle that has been sitting unfinished for 25 years. Just like a million other guys with unfinished project cars collecting dust in the back corner of the garage, life, kids, budget, and other projects keep taking priority. Maybe some day I'll restore it, maybe my kids will... maybe they'll sell it when I'm gone and someone can "find" it.

I'm guessing the '64 Polara tail lights won't stick around. Put in triple Corvette tail lights instead
