If the parts are still on the car there are several things that are indicators, all of which could have been installed later. Available at any Chevrolet dealer parts counter.

I know where there is a 63 Z06 with racing history, complete as raced last in late 1970s. Still owned by the same guy parked in his shop, will not sell. One of two that Delmo Johnson bought new and raced.

We extracted a real Z16 from a salvage yard in Oklahoma last year. It had been there since 1974. It's rough, but it's alive!

Any chance that was the one that pictures were shared here about 15+ years ago with a '68 Impala SS427 (missing hood, but still had the fender-gills) parked next to it?

...can't edit...

Jeff, after having a little coffee, I think I asked that question once before, but I don't remember the answer. I have always wondered what happened to that car.

Been out of control for a long time. If I see either of those words I move on.

Oklahoma. Known about it since 2001, took this long to get it! Red, red guts, black vinyl top. The best thing is the rear trim, speedo, radio, etc. has all been stored safely inside all these years. Shame the car was not!

That's the one. I have tried to find those pictures on here but can't. If anyone kept copies I would be much obliged if you could email them to me! Thanks!

I think RichL79 is the one who posted the pictures originally.

I don't think it was me. Even if it was, I don't have many photos from that long ago due to a hard drive crash some years ago.
