Summit Motorsports Park to remain closed for 2020 season.

I just read the owner, Bill Bader Jr., decided to not to open after NHRA cancelled the national event scheduled at the track. He said that race and prior cancellations were sources of over 80% of his annual revenue thus if didnít make financial sense.

Hate seeing that.

Can't help but wonder how many tracks are going to go belly up over this.

They were on the Drag Week and Power Tour schedule too. That's gonna hurt.

The only reason someone would want insurance is if they want to pay someone elses bills or want someone else to pay their bills.

BIGOT is a word used by people that can't use logical reasoning to prove that you are wrong when you don't agree with them.

Some will, he doesnít seem to be in that boat. Expect tracks to raise gate fees to make up for cancelled races or the mandatory reduction of spectators, crew members or car counts (depending on local restrictions). Most tracks make the majority of their money with a couple of races, if they lose them they need to raise the prices to cover operating costs. Our old track manager said they only covered their costs on weekend bracket races or their Wednesday nights, they made all their money on one race a year.

a coupple of racers bought our local track last year, and we're ON as of this Saturday. I think this is one of those "meek inheret the earth" scenarios caused by the covid snafu. EG I bet Dragway42 is fine.

So....he needed to open so desperately in April that he was going to defy the State issued Stay At Home rules in order to do so.....but now he's not going to open at all (and thus have NO income) in 2020?

I sense that something isn't right "upstairs". This makes almost no sense.

If the NHRA event was such a cash cow (which it probably is) and all other events are cash losers, he should only be open for the NHRA event every year and NOT open for anything else.....b/c he'd be losing money at every other event. (I suspect that's not what really happens.)

This does not add up, IMHO. Still, it's a Free Country and he can do what he wishes with his track.

I'm registered for Drag Week and had intended to do Power Tour as well. Dragway 42 would be a really good alternative for both events. Hot Rod made a statement saying they are looking for an alternate venue.
