Wixom lake after dam gives way

I was at a house that I service yesterday on Wixom lake which is where the edenville 96 year old dam gave away last week.
This house was a new build last year and ended up with 2 feet of water in his walk in basement. The owner also had a house in Midland county which he said was a total loss.
The lake was 40' feet at the deepest point. And almost 2000 acres of body as of right now there is no plan of rebuilding the dam which was estimated over 10 million dollars. The homeowner said his property taxes were about 10k a year for 90 feet of frontage.
Sorry about pic, not sure why there turning out this way on my cell.

I sure would hate to have a lake house without a lake. I feel like that might hurt property values just a little bit.

Re: Wixom lake after dam gives way

Since they're not going to rebuild the dam will his taxes go to more normal?
Did he gain some land or just lose a lakeshore?
Either way it sucks.

That is exactly why I take ALLLLLLLLLLLL my pictures with a camera instead of a cell phone (which I do not even carry). Two things I never leave home without, my pistol and my camera.

You would think the taxes would drop by 2/3 but that is way over my pay to know. He didn't loose any land just has to look at a big sand dune now

Re: Wixom lake after dam gives way

My dad is on Secord Lake, upriver, and got very lucky. They were supposed to put his pontoon in on that Monday but it was raining so they didn't. The river rose about 5'-6' and if his boat would have been in he would have no doubt lost it since it's a covered hoist and the boat would have floated the whole rig and down the river it would have gone.

My sister and a buddy live in Midland and were evacuated but ended up with no flooding. My buddy's parent's whole condo complex looks like it will need to be bulldozed however, they were less than a mile away from my sister's.

It's going to be devastating for that whole area and I doubt it will ever recover to the point it was before the rona shutdown and the flood. Very sad deal.

I had gone to Tawas on the east side of Michigan on Wednesday after the storms and there were roads and driveways washed out all over when I got close. It's sort of spooky to see that stuff. We got lucky where I live and the only place near me I saw with flooding was the storage complex I have space in.

Mhm that story counterdicts what I was told and read. What I read was the bill would be pushed off to the lake front owners to ever be fixed. Time will tell I hope it is rebuilt.

The pictures are narrow not full screen. Maybe because I did screen shoots of the video.
