ever like a car you didn't before?

awhile back a coworker cleaning his yard offered me a pair of 71 mustangs notchbacks. 1 had the naca hood, 429 sitting in the bay. the other was a stock 351 car that sat for years, next to his 67 428 fastback which wasn't for sale. but for $600 for the pair it was probably a decent deal if I liked the body style which at that time I didn't.
So today I see a white 71 couple and thought wow what a nice car! And I wished I would have picked up the pair. jim

Re: ever like a car you didn't before?

When I was a kid I used to watch Route 66 the show that got me interested in Corvettes. Back then they were driving maybe a 61 or 62 Corvette. When they changed the body style in 63 I thought they ruined the car. Who knew today I think the 63 to 67 era Corvettes were the best looking Corvettes ever built. I guess that's why I was lucky enough to own 3 of that era over the years.

Ron, I just thought they were ugly then, the naca hood was probaby worth a few bucks, 15 years ago I passed on a 67 fastback roller with a trailer for $1000 because I wasn't into mustangs and really wasn't into flipping stuff like I am today. If I had the same deal on those 3, this post would have read "ever buy a car you didn't like to make money?" jim

Re: ever like a car you didn't before?

I would take them but I have seven Mustangs from 79 to 19.

The 71 to 73 has a large engine bay and can take up to a 460 easily.

66 Malibu Coupe, home rebuilt 350. Took me 39 years to get her!

Ron: The price is always low where Jim goes. He has a magic spell that he puts on sellers. Works every time.

Jim would buy a Matador X if the price was low enough

Re: ever like a car you didn't before?

I never liked the 71-73 mustang notchbacks but thought the fastbacks looked good, I had a 70 Mach 1 351C & 4 spd (wish I still had it) $600 for a pair of 71 notchbacks I probably would have drug them home and lost $ LOL

Re: ever like a car you didn't before?

Cars were cheap way back in the 80's.
I got a 73 Mustang for 200 bucks.
The 74-78 mustangs could be had for free many times if you hauled them off I got 2 of them.
Got a 69 mustang for 1500..1 owner and all original and looked great still shiny paint.

Datsun Z cars could be bought for 200 and less. Great driving ones.

I thought the 1994 Dodge truck was ugly..It was the first year for the new body style.
I like them now.
I liked the Gremlin. No love for the Pacer to this day though. It is still ugly.

Re: ever like a car you didn't before?

I just bought a good running '04 dodge diesel 2wd high mileage for 2 grand. Needs an a/c condenser and the metal part of the bumper, new carpet, and the blower fan fixed. Gonna flip the hell out of that one...

'71 chevelle, 468, TH400, 12 bolt posi w/3.08's, drinks a lot of 87 octane.

Same here, the Sprotsroofs are awesome....the notchbacks, not so much....I'd consider them just parts cars for a wrecked Sportsroof repair. I could go for a Convertible tho', that's the only "notch" I'd consider keeping.

I feel the same about any year Mustangs tho'. Fastbacks only for me.

The Hatchback Mustang II's are growing on me ever since i saw one locally Pro-Streeted with all the Cobra package spoilers and window slats on it....it looked bad azz.

Re: ever like a car you didn't before?

A friend has a 71-73 ragtop project he's selling but no title and too much rust IMO, plus I think he wants a couple grand, I didn't pay any attention if it had an engine or not

Re: ever like a car you didn't before?

I flagged 3 times on street racing between a friends 73 mach 1 with a Cleveland against a 1984 Toyota truck, and the truck won all 3...
