I always wanted a Malibu that body style when I was a teenager in the mid 90s. I had my 70 Malibu, but wanted one of those too. Nobody wanted to sell any, I found one that day by a barn for a few years and the guy kept saying he was gonna fix it up. ......then a tree fell on it and it disappeared.

Re: Rare 1980 Malibu M80

I looked at a 78 with (I think) a 267 and a factory 4 speed. Red with red bench interior. I couldn’t get him off of the $1600 price so I passed. This was about 92.

Tighten it till it strips and back it off a quarter turn.

Re: Rare 1980 Malibu M80

It is funny to see a post on such a car. Just a few hours ago I saw a 1981 Malibu Classic 2-door coupe on the road in it's faded 2-tone glory and thought it had been a long time since I had seen one.

A friend had up until about 8 years back a 1980 Malibu Classic coupe. Not an M80 (which I think is a play on Manual & 1980), it was a 4-speed and the V8 power deficiency was solved by running a 1972 LT-1 350. It had a sweep speedo rather than the gauge setup, but the sweep went to 200 km/h (120 mph). I believe it was out of a 9C1 Malibu they ran a fleet of for Toronto Police back in what seems like a long time ago. He was an ex-cop & told of how he ended the duty of a Police Dodge Aspen 360 sedan around '76. At least they caught the bad guy.

Re: Rare 1980 Malibu M80

I had ordered a 79 Malibu Classic that was sort of like the M80. I ordered it with a factory 4 speed and gauge package.

Re: Rare 1980 Malibu M80

After supporting GM through those horrible years I have to say my biggest disappointment was my 81 Monti with a turbo. It was a total dog. Only Buick made that engine move years later. I had an 84 and a 85 Monti SS and those cars were a lot of fun. Maybe because we were so performance deprived for so many years. Later my 94 Z28 LT1 was showing real Hp that rivaled or excelled many muscle cars of yesteryear. I have seen ups and downs throughout the years but I have been a muscle guy even when they were not so muscular.

Re: Rare 1980 Malibu M80

I like this era of Malibu's. I had a really nice '78 Malibu Classic, Maroon red with red bench interior. The v-6 didn't cut it so i put a low miles 350 in it to wake it up. I like the way the tail lights have the same shape as the '68, with the side of the tail light coming to a point. Terry

Not a hope in hell of a 17 sec 1/4. Maybe a 17 sec 0-60. I had an 81 estate wagon (woody) with the 140 hp 305 4 bbl and it was slooooow but it sure rode nice.
