Tragic loss on the Pontiacs. I'm feeling for the folks in dire straits.

Wow ... I saw that sign quickly on the news, but didn’t know it was a museum? That’s a sad situation there

Re: Pontiac Fieros nearly drowned

that is a shame;
maybe if the state w/n on lock down they may have prevented this by monitoring the dams more closely...

I must have saw that same news clip. Then a short while later, I stumbled across the link above while surfing on company time.

Monitoring a failing dam do to Mother Nature showing her wrath would not have prevented anything

Properly maintaining the dams probably would have though.

Missing the point here... The dams overflowing from a 500 year storm has NOTHING to do with maintenance or monitoring

Re: Pontiac Fieros nearly drowned

I heard that besides the maintenance issues, and undersized spillways, someone was maintaining a too high of lake level. If they had the lake level lower before the storm, this might not have happened. The dam owner blames the state for dictating the level, and the state blames the owners. Really muddies the water, so to speak. But it sure seems there was a lack of action and foresight by the agencies and companies responsible to prevent these things.

Mostly all the body panels were plastic similar to new cars bumper material but stiffer,over a metal frame that carried the panels.The front suspension was from a Chevette and the rear suspension and drivetrain was modified FWD components from various General motors products.
They make great cars to modify if you're into swapping drivetrains.One of the more common (for Fiero's ?) swaps is to use a Cadillac Northstar V8 and trans. makes for a fun package

Re: Pontiac Fieros nearly drowned

One of my Dad's employees had a black 87ish Fiero GT with the V6 5-speed. To my 9 year old brain, that was a cool car. Not as cool as my uncle's IROC Camaro, but still pretty cool. The Fiero was a car ruined by budget cuts, they would have been a great car if they started with what the 1988 model had. Unfortunately, by then the reputation of the car had been ruined and they weren't selling.

Re: Pontiac Fieros nearly drowned

Yep by the time the defects on the car, had been sorted out, the car was doomed. The car was originally envisioned as a cheap commuter, utilizing the on the shelf Pontiac "Iron Duke" 151 cubic inch (2.5L) Four. That engine was in virtually everything, from postal Jeeps to AMC's and forklifts.
