How close are you to where you grew up?

Do you wish you were closer/farther away? Why?

I live 5 miles away from the farm I grew up on. I can almost see the place that my wife grew up on from where we live. Always wanted to be somewhere else, when I was younger, but as I get older it is nice to be around the safe and familiar.

Love to travel though and am looking forward to being able to.

I live 6 miles from where I grew up. My wife is less then 2. I wanted to move south. But we settled where we knew the area. In the end it was the right thing to do.

We live in the same house that I spent part of my youth in.

Re: How close are you to where you grew up?

I live about 10 minutes away from where I grew up. I always wish I could have the privacy we had there. Not so private here now where i live. But, Going back to the "country" where I grew up has changed so much I wouldnt want to be there . They packed so many houses in the area. All the places we hiked and rode our dirt bikes are a thing of the past. The area looks like **** now. Glad I have my memories though!

I grew up at the Jersey Shore, a real piney. I'm about 120 miles from there, have been for 35 years. You really can't get far enough away from NJ though.

Re: How close are you to where you grew up?

When I was 18 on the day I graduated high school I move 2K miles away. I moved from Long Island NY to Houston Tx. I was there for 7 years and I really did like it but when my parents put my childhood home up for sale in 1987 I moved back and bought it. It was great having all 4 of my kids going to the same schools I went to. The only problem with Long Island was how expensive it cost to live. After all the kids grew up and moved out and a semi nasty divorce I remarried and we moved to Florida. I do miss not seeing my family often but I donít think I would ever move back. Besides I was always more of a beach person not a snow person.

Re: How close are you to where you grew up?

From 12 years old I lived in the same town. Raised my family and then everyone dispersed. At 62 I decided the sleepy little town I grew up in didnít resemble a place I wanted to stay.

I donít like being manipulated!

Re: How close are you to where you grew up?

We live about 1,300 miles from where I was born and raised (born on Long Island, NY, moved to CT when I was 10). My wife was born and raised in CT.

We wouldn't move back to New England ever. Taxes are too high, and we hate the cold. We love living in Florida (laid back and quiet where we are).

Re: How close are you to where you grew up?

I live at the far west side of the same tcity i grew up in. Mum and sis lif in the family home that grandpa bough in 1939. It used to take about ten minutes to get back home . Now its a half hour they are re doing all the bridges and you have to go all the way around. The old neighborhood has not changed much but its starting to. All the homes usually went from the grandparents to thier children and their children . With the fourth generation they are starting to sell and move out because of the real estate prices. There was a time when everybody knew everybody and we all went to the same schools. We once had when i grew up 9 grammar schools 3 large middle schools and a huge high school. Its all very nice but now its getting rediculous. It was always a working class town with factories etc where people worked and now its become upper crust and way way uppercrust and thats a shame. The reason being the people are not so nice and a bit stuffy. This all boils down to one thing . The kennell ration commercial "my dogs better than your dog my dogs better than yours" . The mindset of them is hoo ray and yippee for me and scrub you baby not good and thats it .alex

Re: How close are you to where you grew up?

I am 20 miles from where I grew up (Monroeville, PA). I would love to move to the SW, maybe northern Arizona or New Mexico. But my wife will never move away from family, and now that we have 2 grandchildren nearby, never happen.
