1987 Yugo GV - Twin Cadillac 500 Engines...

It makes you wonder why someone would dump so much time and money into a car like this.

If it was done by some custom fabrication shop, then it would be for advertising. The goal is to show off the skills but build a car that fits into no known competition class so it cannot be shamed in real competition. And it can be written off as a business expense.
Other than that, I have no idea why.

Fact is, he could have used any non distinct car from the era, the Yugoslav Yugo just adds to the absurdity.

Or maybe not. If he wanted to reach true heights of the absurd, a East German Trabant would really turn heads.

I suppose the answer to they question “why”? is............”because”.

Re: 1987 Yugo GV - Twin Cadillac 500 Engines...

Challenge accepted. I want to take that recently crashed new Corvette and install a Ford flathead in it just to be different. The one thing holding me back is that I do not know how to hook up a flathead to OBDII. There is no bolt boss on a Stromberg 97 to hook up the throttle position sensor. I will check my JC Whitney catalog tonight for the adapter.
71350SS and OLDED like this.

Just my luck. The adapter P/N FN10198-45 seems to be on back order.

Re: 1987 Yugo GV - Twin Cadillac 500 Engines...

I love it, seriously LOVE IT. Better if they did it to a Chevette, kept it all GM. That has to be a hoot. Also why can NOBODY DO MATH on the internet?
"Today’s 1987 Yugo GV has two engines. Not only that, but those mills are 500 CID Cadillac V8s. Together that’s almost ten-times the displacement of the Yugo’s original 1.3-litre four"
Uh, 1,000 ci = 16.x liters, not ALMOST TEN TIMES, but over 12 times a 1.3!
I mean, not advanced, you only need 1 number, and I learned over 40 years ago that 1.6 liters is close to 100 ci, and 1 liter is close to 60 ci for quick in your head stuff.

Re: 1987 Yugo GV - Twin Cadillac 500 Engines...

Back in the '80s, when the Yugo first came out, my friends girlfriend had one. My buddies car was in the shop, and when he came to visit me one day, he showed up in the Yugo, my friend is a big guy, and seeing him packed in like sardines, we all laughed so hard, he got mad and left. He never showed up in the Yugo again. You know, Yugo faster if you push it. Terry

Re: 1987 Yugo GV - Twin Cadillac 500 Engines...

On a side note, I had to drive a Yugo to assist someone long ago. I was FINALLY able to get it to chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift. Did the same thing with a Ford Fiesta a few years before the Yugo event. It can be done, but you gotta work for it.

P.S. I hear that they are going to bring them back. The 2 door will be called the Yugo. A 4 door model will be called the Wego. And there will be a 3 row model called the Y'allgo.

We sold those at the dealer I worked for. Rusted out in the lot, they were pure junk.
