Take the car out for a cruise?

I'm in Oregon and here is our governor's mandate:
The governorís order is a legally enforceable. Failure to comply with the Executive Order would be considered an immediate danger to public health. If there were to be a citation or arrest, it is a Class C misdemeanor (up to 30 days in jail, a fine of up to $1,250, or both).

Sounds pretty strict, eh? I can't see why one couldn't go for a drive. We'd certainly be keeping the 6-foot rule in effect. I suppose those willing to chance it could say "I'm going to the grocery store".

Thoughts, comments?

Yeah, how about listening and just stay home until it passes.

You're just jealous because you can't hear the voices!

If you aren't out gathering with other people I don't see why they would have a problem with you going for a little cruise in your car. I drove mine last weekend and this weekend.

Cops donít care. A buddy in the CHP said they have been told not to enforce minor infractions. They donít care, they wonít bother anyone unless someone calls to complain.

Sacramento even held a race last weekend and nobody bothered them.

Re: Take the car out for a cruise?

What got me a little pissed is that a house four doors down from me had 8 cars in front of their house today! The house was just bought recently and is under a total gut out and the owner hasnt even moved into it yet. So I guess they wanted to have a get together. Here, we are keeping our distance from everyone, even when we do head out to the store and such. But these morons dont give a crap!

Re: Take the car out for a cruise?

there is no 1 size fits all plan for the US. People living like mice in a habi trail such as New York city is different from people living in suburban tucson. We can go out to our yard, cars, etc and be far apart from anyone else. a person living stacked on top of each other has to share a hallway just to get to the street.
We went out to the desert for 4 hours yesterday, did the social distance thing, got to soak up vitamin D and a bunch of dust riding around in the dirt. jim

Re: Take the car out for a cruise?

They're not enforcing the "Safer at Home" thing since it's not mandatory but I'm taking my 6 yr old Gson for a ride in the Chevelle tomorrow, I don't like him stuck to a video screen and with anything that's fun to take him to being closed we'll ride around until he gets tired of that ...or I run out of gas , only having lap belts for his car seat might be a problem though?

Re: Take the car out for a cruise?

I took the old girl out for a spin today. Our order says weíre allowed to go out for a ďpleasure driveĒ if we want to. If that changes, I have a paper and my work badge that can be used as a get out of jail free card. Not that Iíd abuse that privilege
