Another "Fifty Years Ago this Month" post.

I ordered my LS6 optioned SS Chevelle February 10th 1970. It was built at the GM Leedís Plant in Kansas City, Missouri on March 10th 1970. I took possession of it on March 13th 1970.

I was 23 years old and that was a lot of money at the time but with my savings and trade in I was able to pay cash. My old check register shows I had $281 dollars left to my name but I had a new SS Chevelle 454 LS6 with no loan.

That is so cool.

Yours is one of the better color combos on a 70, IMHO.

Re: Another "Fifty Years Ago this Month" post.

Well, I know there are at least TWO of us that still have the 70 that they ordered. Not sure about you, But I did not plan to have my LS-5- M-22 El Camino in the year 2020. It just worked out that way.
I would like to have all the one owner guys & girls with any kind of a 70 have a get together. I do not think we would need a big area to park our 70s.
I also ordered mine in Feb. it was a Balt. March build. Not sure about you but I do not drive mine a lot. Congrats on being another 70 guy with his & her one owner 70 Chevelle, Azz kicken color combo...... I am not real good with computers.
My wife will get some pictures of mine up tonight. ( I hope)
I did know another guy ( Talked to him at an old NCOA show). It was a maroon 70-SS one owner Chevelle from the mid-west.

Congrats on standing by your decision to buy and hold onto your Chevelle. How many people have said that they wished they hadn't sold their car?
Nice Chevelle!

There was another member here who hasn't been around in years, but he still owns his 1970 Chevelle Malibu that he bought new. Last time he was on the site about 8 years ago his daily driver Chevelle had 676,000 miles on it! His user handle finally came to me: MalibuJerry350. Anybody remember him out of N.J?

Thanks for your comments Bob. I almost sold mine in the 1980ís as we became a family of four and it was not an economical family car plus the engine had started to make a ďtickingĒ sound so it was parked. It was just about sold to a buyer when my wife spoke up and said someday I would regret selling this car. She was the reason I changed my mind and the car was not sold. In 2015 it was my wife again saying letís get it restored and we did.

Re: Another "Fifty Years Ago this Month" post.

Code 25 'Astro Blue' is one of the best colors of 1970. It just looks so right on a Chevelle. I hope the thieves who stole mine in '78 appreciated the color as much as I did. I doubt it. As the NYC cops told me the next morning, " Son, hate to tell you, but that car is in a thousand pieces by now". It's so awesome that you still have yours.
I often wonder if the car was chopped up like the police thought. I keep a photo of the old Registration on my phone and every time a see a Baltimore built SS at a car show, I glance at the VIN. If it turned out to be my car, I wouldn't know what to do. I wonder what my rights would be.

Re: Another "Fifty Years Ago this Month" post.

Funny you should mention about selling your LS-6. In 1981-82, I had an add in the paper. I was trying to sell my El Camino. My add read: 1970-El Camino for sale. Not inspected-$1400.00. I got one call from a painter, He turned it down due to the 454 engine.... Bob

The memories of two gas shortages were still very fresh in everyone's mind back in '81. If we only knew then what we know now....

Re: Another "Fifty Years Ago this Month" post.

A cool story and an even cooler car...beautiful color combo! I have a friend that has bought and sold a total of 12 vehicles since his high school years (late '60,s-early'70,s) including his first car that his parents bought him while a senior in high school - a 1968 Plymouth 383 4 speed Roadrunner. His dad wouldn't go for the hemi option since it was an additional 700.00 cost. He was mainly a Mopar guy, and had previously owned a 1970 440 Cuda as well as a 1970 383 Superbee. The one car that he still wishes he had held onto was his 1970 LS6 4 speed Chevelle. He bought it used from the original owner in 1972, installed 4:56 gears(big mistake), and drove it hard for one year before it started to smoke. After that he sold it to a girl for 1500.00.

Remember what a big deal it was to buy a new car.. All the neighbors would come out and check it out and talk about cars all day long. This always seemed to be on a Saturday..
