Hearing a little 265 rev to 9200, it sounds like a chain saw. The first time I heard it, I got a case of the giggles. Its pretty fun to watch. I was at his shop about 10 years ago when he was putting the engine together, hes got some high dollar pieces in that thing to keep it in one piece. I think he goes through the traps at about 10,500.

Very nice looking 55, the Red 55 wagon looked good too and a bit faster.

Re: Pretty cool 55 screamer

I drove a '55 150 in 1972, had a 265 cid 3-spd of the floor. Never would have dreamed a 265 would ever hold together in that rpm range. Great vid.

Wow that takes nuts, poor clutch!!

Is that trans face plated meaning he doesnt need to use the clutch unless leaving?

He says he has two different brands of transmissions, both with the same gear ratios. Quite likely has one that requires a clutch to shift, the other may not. Probably depends on what the class or racing association rules require.

I think the only time he uses the clutch is when he leaves the line.

Re: Pretty cool 55 screamer

If that really is the original 1955 265ci engine block, how in the world does it hold up? The early blocks were pretty primitive.

Cool stuff

Re: Pretty cool 55 screamer

Ive got a Brute Force T10 tranny with a full Liberty gear treatment that does the same thing. There are no syncros, so you just pull/ push the shifter with no clutch and it goes right into gear. You dont see them often these days.

BTW - I agree that guys good !

Re: Pretty cool 55 screamer

I ran a Jerico with a 2.78 first and 4.30 rear gears. That first shift is quick, ready, set, go, then 2nd. Shifted at 7000, 427 bb. The input lasts longer, and the dogs won't chip if you blip the throttle just a little, no clutch. He didn't seem to blip the throttle, but it's really hard to tell. I haven't opened up my case, it has maybe 40 runs and 1000 street miles. I have witnessed a few opened up that had shown what I mentioned and spoke to the owners....they normally just rammed gears.
Awesome ride!

justkyle,

I have posted your friend’s video here several times ! Mostly every time someone blabs the “no replacement for displacement” mantra. LOL

Please tell your friend he has one very bad azz 55 and he can drive it !

Of course, he knows this.

Oh, 9000 is not uncommon for the SBC, Dey been doing this since at least the mid ‘60’s

I’ll tell him next time I see him. If I remember right, he also used to race another ‘55 that had a 327 in it. Full interior, that went low 10’s.

Re: Pretty cool 55 screamer

That's AWESOME!
Of course he has a safety blanket around the clutch, right? That thing spins right up. Very impressive for an old 265 indeed.
