Coronavirus shut my company down

Well my contract for my company just got shut down, effective March 23rd, obviously no timeline if/when we go back.

16 employees + owners immediately out of work. Can't get a hold of labor boards, there is very little info on what legal obligations I have, or what can be done.

The mass hysteria has just gave me a swift kick in the balls, good thing people have their toilet paper.

Within 24 hours shut downs for schools, day cares, and restaurants (delivery only).

Anyone else get shut down?

Does Canada provide financial assistance during the shutdown?

If there is, they haven't been public about it. I am currently searching for that information but getting through to the government places is almost impossible right now because everyone is looking for the same answers.

Not yet, but I expect it's coming. Though I'll be "forced telework" rather than tossed to the curb. MD just shutdown restaurants and bars today on top of the other forced closures. That went into effect at 5PM. Carryout/Delivery is still OK (for now). Also includes theaters and gyms, health clubs, spas, etc. are also all closed down. Within hours, DC also implemented the same thing.

Re: Coronavirus shut my company down

I'm expecting total shutdown of the US, maybe as soon as the end of this week. Shelter in place. Trumps already said no more than 10 people gatherings and no discretionary travel or entertainment. Sounds like Fascism to me. [Fascist as insult: As a political epithet, fascist has been used in an anti-authoritarian sense to emphasize the common ideology of governmental suppression of individual freedom.]

WE ARE NOT WARDS OF THE GOVERNMENT!!!

I dont like being manipulated!

SF Bay Area just issued a shelter in place for six of the counties - https://www.sfchronicle.com/local-po...y-15135014.php

If the panic buying was bad before, this is going to get crazy...

Re: Coronavirus shut my company down

Had to take my wife to the hospital this morning for a biopsy. 5 hours in the hospital. They were doing no checking at the door of anyone coming in. I hope we get good results from her biopsy, but could be headed to surgery again, almost immediately. Great time to visit a hospital, huh?

Re: Coronavirus shut my company down

Unreal....line at Winco was almost 200 yds long at 6am, only letting in small groups.
Got limited to 4 cans of tuna (cat loves it), shelves were barren. No veggies, meat eggs milk soup, etc. Zip

TP is the last of my worries...when gangs start going door to door thats when things get serious. This dingbat I live with insists on keeping it locked in the safe unloaded.
Are people really that ignorant? Out shopping and running around like its new years day.

Re: Coronavirus shut my company down

One of my vehicles is a Land Rover ex-Missile Carrier.
Pretty unstoppable.
I live in a rural farm area and there is NO WAY the farmers are going to abandon the fields at planting time.
I really doubt any sort of lock-down will be ordered here and even less likely to be obeyed if it were.
I work out of my own shop so there is no practical way to stop me working when I feel like it.
Close the road and I will just go around.
We only have a dozen or fewer cops, they have better things to do than hassle small business.
And being in Nevada, double D** no way the Casino's get closed.
Today was the first I saw empty shelves at the store, TP, water, and chicken?
Canned goods in plenty.
Several items were restocked while I was there, certainly no shortage of banana's!

At these gas prices I want it 100+ octane, leaded, and my windshield washed!

Re: Coronavirus shut my company down

Im in Michigan. Schools are shut down. Restaurants and bars are shut down. Carry out only. Cancelled our FRC robotics competitions, all school sports are cancelled. Town is dead, wal mart cleaned out of everything. Have both my vehicles full of gas so if [email protected]#$ hits the fan.

Tighten it till it strips and back it off a quarter turn.

Re: Coronavirus shut my company down

Some folks here are being laid off already or given furloughs or cutting hours.
Big local grocery chain is limiting hours and allowing only elderly, over 60, in the store from 6:00 am to 7:30 am so they can get items first.

Re: Coronavirus shut my company down

The way my knees felt today I'll need a walker soon. My son works for a major utility company in the area...Ok THE major one in the area. They closed all the offices and he's working out of his truck. My daughter's a PA in a central Ne clinic. She's been using the same mask for days now and they don't know when they will be receiving more...So I'm on the hunt for 3m N95 masks. Going to try and get some through my work from MSC/Grainger and ship them to her. Just flippin bizarre....
