AM/FM Cassette and your cell phone Music

Ok I did not know how to title this one.
I was hauling my friend to go cut some cedar trees down.
Driving my 95 corolla with old school original AM FM casette.
We were talking about songs and he said I can play them off my phone onto your radio.

I said NO way it is not blue tooth or anything.. he said does not need to be .
He tuned it to I think 91.5 FM and looked up a song on youtube and it began playing on my car speakers. Nothing was plugged in he was just holding the his phone in his hand.

HA! So if you guys did not know that could happen you do now and those old radios may not need changed out to play your music.

I do not have a cell phone and never did.

Just telling you guys/gals that may live under the same rock as I do.

Really???????

Are you sure he was not gaslighting you? If I read this correctly you are saying that AM/ FM radios from the mid 90's will receive Bluetooth transmissions on 91.5 FM. I gotta wonder what was "in the air" on 91.5 when this happened. I have some bluetooth adapters rigged into radios but you have to have a port in the radio and a Blue tooth receiver connected to that port to make this work. I am not saying you are BS'ing us but my money is on your buddy gaslighting you.

I have to wonder what it is being used for the transmitter, but apparently you can download FM transmitter apps on your phone!

It was news to me too. But, every new generation squeezes more crap into those things. I didn't dig too deep to see if it was only Android or Apple or if it was only the latest generation or any smart phone.

Actually some early remote car CD players would transmit to an FM station to play on any car radio

Not so sure that is a plus....LOL.

Again a question...Am I understanding this right ...IF this app exists for Apple it could take Pandora / Spotify and TRANSMIT the Pandora / Spotify music from an I-Phone to a nearby FM radio set on 91.5? I don't get at all fired up about all this new stuff on cell phones (I CERTAINLY don't line up at midnight for the latest version to go on sale) but this rumored feature has me interested.

Gonna research this, will report back. Any Posters who have commented who research this please report back to this thread.

re: AM/FM Cassette and your cell phone Music

This can work, but with a bluetooth fm transmitter, not native in the phone, but I'll look some more.
Also the best type of device to add audio to a radio is the wired fm modulators. They tie into the antenna directly, no interference.
Something like this

I have used them in the past in several cars (not with bluetooth though, this was a while ago) and was very pleased. Audio quality is like a perfect FM signal, and that isn't too bad. Not CD quality, but who really needs that in an old car anyway.

Defiantly not a benefit, most of the small Bluetooth speakers you can buy sound better then old car radios.

re: AM/FM Cassette and your cell phone Music

Think I need to clarify a bit. I think I got ahead of myself earlier AND that I did a p-ss por job explaining myself.I think there might be two ways to approach this.

#1 As poorly mentioned above somehow turn the cell phone into an FM radio broadcasting the Pandora playlist into the radio over an FM "broadcast" the pandora playlist to the radio on an FM frequency such as 91.5. This sounds like a HUGE stretch to me now after digesting the whole idea. It was my mistaken read of the OP post that got me thinking this might be possible.

#2 Take Bluetooth / Pandora playlist from I-Phone and "transmit" it into a radio via a device that receives B-tooth signal from the phone and feeds an Aux in port on the radio. Such devices are out there now but they are battery powered and don't use the cars electrical system for power. I have such a device in the old car and I like it BUT charging the battery becaomes a PIA.

I would really like to see a device that can transmit the Pandora playlist from the I-Phone into the aux in ports on my radio AND one that was at the same time supplied with power from the cars electrical system. No screwing around with batteries is my goal. Auto sensing of the presence of the bluetooth signal once I place my I-Phone in the car would be a great feature also. I have just such a device in my 4 Runner but it taps right into the factory Toyota radio wiring with plug in connextors. Would like such a thing for our old "pre-historic" rides. I should add in my old ride I have a 1972 factory radio with RCA aux in plugs added.

Hope I did a better job with this post.

re: AM/FM Cassette and your cell phone Music

I bought 2 solar rock speakers (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/used)for my back yard a couple years ago and they sound great.

Well, the radio in my 64 doesn't sound that great so,I put them in the back seat one day when I was going out.
My son said I was crazy. But, they sounded great.
But, I have since bought 2 Bose speakers ( https://www.bestbuy.com/site/bose ) that is less noticeable.
I have Sirius/XM and Pandora on my phone and I love it.

re: AM/FM Cassette and your cell phone Music

I have not heard back but I looked it up and it is an FM transmitter app.

I changed my speakers in the 95 corolla shortly after I got it ..I have Jensen and Pioneers in it.
With tweeters and mids.
Sounds very good for a stock stereo.
Better than many new cars I have been in.

I have built some elaborate car stereo systems back in the day where the entire back of the car including back seat is filled with speakers and amps and powered with #4 wire.

Those were stupid days of the late 1980's and early 90's and makes me ask ...What did you say?

re: AM/FM Cassette and your cell phone Music

Ok more information ..

This is what my friend sent me.

It is an FM transmitter. You know my littler car charger I had with me? It's that. Basically you buy it from walmart and it has a set station on it. You can change the station but I'm not sure how. You connect your phone to it via Bluetooth and set your radio on that station it's set at and it plays over a normal radio. You can use any Bluetooth device.
