Anybody Remember This Car

https://scontent.fbed1-2.fna.fbcdn.n...a2&oe=5E97EA6B

Just saw this picture on Team Chevelle on Facebook. This is Donny Richardson's car that he had bought from another member years ago and after he got it he found many surprises that he missed when he inspected it before the purchase.

Nice looking 70SS
Is this the grandsport mess, I can't really recall. Getting old, memories not what is once was.

Re: Anybody Remember This Car

Oh yeah, it was Grandsport. We probably should shut this down. It was polarizing in the past.

It sure is a good looking car! I assume that's the current look now after being re-restored?

Grandsport was the one that owned the car and Danny bought it from him. The car looked nice but when Donny took it to a body shop to get a few things done to it they found a lot of stuff wrong with it and Donny ended up doing the car all over. He has to have $100k into that car. I just went on their Facebook page "Blalock's Customs" and it showed more pictures of the car when you put Donny Richardson in the search box on the post section.

If i recall it involved spray foam and newspapers stuffed into quarters and body panels of what was supposed to be a show quality car. The newspapers basically gave away that he did it and was guilty as hell because they had the date on them proving when it was done, just before the sale.

The guy basically built himself a reputation here on the site with what turned out to be the express purpose to select and groom a high dollar buyer to take advantage of.
Incredibly sad- more so that the buyer wound up being punished(here) for trying to bring it to light.

Buyer beware, even when you think you know someone.

I don't remember Grandsport hyping up the car to being anything but "For Sale".

Or the punishing of the buyer.

Is there evidence or a link to these threads?

And I agree, don't buy without laying your own eyes on it.

Right, the person that stuffed newspapers in the car salesman's Chevelle to keep a whole bunch of body filler from falling through screwed up.

I'll never understand the deal that was made to the car salesman to delete everything, including Donny's posts if he would agree to being kicked off of TC
No loss for TC though because he posted a silly reply in every single thread.

Anyway, I don't think this is the same car because Keith Baynard said he has owned this one for 48 years.

Re: Anybody Remember This Car

IIRC, GS had posted numerous threads on the build of his '70, including bodywork/paint and the car was praised by fellow TCers as a quality build. When it came time to transfer ownership, the buyer purchased site unseen and found these little surprises shortly after. Donny took ultimate responsibility because he admittedly took too much on faith.
A great lesson to all who think you know somebody in business.
