Or Chevy High Performance print editions. Sadly among 17 other printed automotive magazines being shut down by TEN Publishing, per an article on dragracingonline.com. To be gone by the end of the year. Only Motor Trend, 4 Wheeler, and Hot Rod will remain. Also gone: Car Craft, Super Chevy, Vette, Mopar Muscle, and others. I subscribed to MCR and CHP and will miss them greatly. I don't know if some or all will still be available on-line. I for one like reading printed editions much more than reading things on-line.
I'm guessing they'll give you an equal number of issues remaining with your choice of Hot Rod, Motor Trend, or 4 Wheeler. Might try to pass off on-line subscriptions as equal.
I renewed Car Craft a while back for 3 years. I've been getting e-mails to re-subscribe to Super Chevy weekly for the past several months. Glad I didn't.
Now what do I do with 30+ years of magazines in boxes? They'll soon be antiques.
I unfortunately haven't enjoyed a good magazine in quite some time. They pretty much have all turned into catalogs. There's more ads then articles in them now.
I hate to hear several of them have folded. Maybe they can focus on better tech in the remaining few and bring some readers back?
Same here. Stopped buying almost 20 yrs ago, less content, pages and to many ads.
Did enjoy getting them ea month...and big catalogs like PAW perfect bathroom stuff lol.
Online gets old.
Fave section were tons of cam mfrs who gave out plenty of specs not this stage 1, 2, enter goofy name etc.
This hobby has really taken a dump.
Guy picked up my engine today, hes 68 and was lamenting the same thing.
It does not surprise me for 2 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!
My first magazine subscription was HOTROD in 1968 (still have them in the attic) until about 10yrs ago. I also have subscribed to several other magazines, especially Chevy related publications.
I finally got so sick of all the ads, articles that were WAAAAAY beyond the resources of the average car enthusiast, incorrect information and failure of the authors to research or proof read their articles. In past years, it has been abundantly obvious that published information about automotive subjects have simply been piggy backed from other sources which were incorrect, and the authors simply continued to provide wrong or inaccurate information. Clearly, many of the authors never researched the information, nor bothered to proof read their articles before sending them out for publication. I just let everything expire and have not missed one single publication.
I gain more knowledge and information from forums like this than I ever did the last few years of the publications that I had.
Furthermore, this forum (and group of people) is miles above other automotive forums which I sometimes visit. Sometimes, when on other forums, I just hang my head and wonder where they come from!
Thanks for posting this..I just subscribed and like many of you I now want my money back. They give you an email address as the contact. I looked for a phone number, but couldn't find one. I don't want Hot Rod or any other mag.
Many of you may not know this, but you can probably get some or all of those mags free online at your local library. Sure, you don't get the magazine, but you can print off the articles you like and not deal with the tons of ads you get from magazines now.
I really liked (liked past-tense), HMM... Its still my favorite, but their "remodeling" last year just doesn't do it for me... Too many short, choppy articles, typical ads disguised as tech articles, and just in the latest issue, the "Swap Meet" section had a letter dealing with motorhome transmission swaps. There have been many other non-muscle machine stuff over the years, but they have never answered one of my letters regarding my Chevelle or other classics or muscle cars…
"Ask Ray" has one letter regarding tires for a 1989 Ford ranger, fuel problem with a 2002 Chevy Silverado 4.8l, sticky brake calipers on a 2004 Vovlo XC90 (SUV?)… WTF? NONE of those are what I (nor, I am guessing) most readers) would consider "muscle" or "performance"...
HMM is my favorite, and now I guess it will be my only mag... By that reason alone, I guess I will keep it...
I like MCR too, and I just checked, my latest renewal for MCR was for 24 months, paid in March of 2018... So I guess I will be out a few issues... Damn...
With all the ads, and the cross-publication of many articles, I can't see how they are NOT making money...
https://www.moparaction.com/ Good tech articles. If you don't mind a few digs about "chebys" and GM's inferior engineering. I've sent in questions and actually got an answer promptly.
My subscription to Super Chevy is until August of 21....I don't think I'm going to get that much money back, if that's even an option, but like many of you, enjoyed actually having the magazine in my hands. If its gone so be it, I guess they will let us know.
Funny how nothing was mentioned when I renewed my car craft subscription not too long ago. I said 3 months but I looked and it was 6 weeks ago. This $hi+ should be illegal. Wtf?
The message here seems to be that the audience is going away, then the advertisers and finally the print editions. The car hobby market is dying. If that is true, then the performance parts industry and SEMA are in trouble, too.
Recent visits to Walmart and the local walgreens had zero gun related magazines on their racks. Could they be going through the same thing? It is difficult for me to accept that both hobbies are going extinct all of a sudden.
Yep, I have a year and a half left and I called and she said I would get a refund.
Hot Rod Magazine is awful now. It's so cheap I get it but now I don't even read it. It goes right in the trash. I guess it's a changing of the guard eh? All the new stuff doesn't even interest me. Even MCR was getting toward that too.
Maybe it's me at 70? Everyone wants to refit the old buggy with all this pro whatever. I'll take day 2 mods anytime...........Saves money too.
This makes me sad. Really enjoyed Super Chevy, and Car Craft, when it was different from Hot Rod. Enjoyed CHP too.
It’s hard to imagine the car industry going away, maybe it’s modernizing for the times. It would be interesting to understand how the total market has evolved, from a demographic and financial sense.
I’m sure forums and other digital media do impact the magazine business, as does YouTube. Who really wants to read when you can watch HP TV?
Nah..most of us have no choice in the matter. Pretty sure life was much better having brick/mortar speed shops, local chevelle resto houses, newspapers and Nickel Ads. As much as I appreciate my laptop, I wouldn't miss it a bit if things were in place that we enjoyed years back. But I can't remember reading a car mag other than the Hagerty periodical and the MCACN annual, because the rest just had nothing to offer me.
I made the switch to digital years ago. I subscribed to Readr on my ipad. I received all the magazines that are now going away. It cost me 9.99 a month and had my choice of just about any automotive magazine. No magazines, No subscription. Im saddened by the loss.
I wish I would have switched to digital as well, I now have boxes of magazines that are a pain to look through, it would have taken no space at all to keep them electronically for ever or at least my life time
