VIN Number and other acronyms with one of the words repeated

We see people type VIN NUMBER = Vehicle Identification Number Number quite often.

The problem is if you go in a parts store and ask for AT fluid you will definitely confuse the counter-person.(well maybe not all of them) then get the cross eyed stare and then when you tell them "well let me give you my VI Number to make looking up parts easier" you'll hear "say what" or something like that
we all use those extra words I don't know how else to say those without repeating the word again

I used to work in the insurance industry and most of the adjusters would ask for the VIN number quite often. Where as they could easily asked for the VIN. I'm pretty sure everyone knows what a VIN and PIN is by now without have to say number. Just my two cents.
