Big Boy Pics

Trains aren't my thing but some of you seemed interested so I took so pictures for you. They aren't the best quality as the only camera I own is my cell phone and she was moving fairly quick but they aren't the worst.

The 4014 was traveling from Denver back to the steam shop in Cheyenne today. These pictures are from the Fort Lupton, CO area.

Enjoy!

Tommy, nice contrast with the snow. She looks mighty mean against the white.

Re: Big Boy Pics

The pictures don't do justice to the amount of steam it gives off in this weather. I wish I could take credit for the contrast, but thank you just the same Boyd. They're going to stop at the depot in Greeley if you want to see it in person. Be careful if you go out, the roads are bad and people do dumb things to get pictures of the steam trains.

Re: Big Boy Pics

I've got a pic/vid somewhere of one of those things running like 80-90 MPH. There's a lot of steel flying around the wheels at that speed. Pretty impressive, wouldn't want to standing near the tracks when one went by.

Tom Terrific or Terrible Tom, depending on the phase of the moon, passing cosmic rays or other factors not fully understood except by my wife.

Re: Big Boy Pics

I'm old enough that I clearly remember as a little boy when steam locomotives were still in use in the Okla City area. I loved them as a kid and still do. When we went to see the Bigboy over a week ago, it brought a tear to my eyes. It is just so difficult to believe that our nation had that kind of powerful, sophisticated engineering and machinery 70+yrs ago.

I am so thankful that Union Pacific has maintained and restored the three steam locomotives and they are fully operational.

This is coming through Vian, OK over a week ago.

Re: Big Boy Pics

Tom, your post was what inspired me to take the pictures. As I said, trains (and photography, obviously) aren't one of my interests but you showed interest so I'll take some pictures for you guys. I see the steam trains all the time.

Re: Big Boy Pics

My wife, daughter and I rode the UP844 from Cheyenne to Greeley several years ago. This is the only picture I can find of that day.

Re: Big Boy Pics

Here's the link of the Big Boy at Tie Siding, Wyoming I made. Only about a minute long. Got to love the whistle and raw sound, but I like your stills Tommy again the snow. It gives it a chilling effect.

Re: Big Boy Pics

Awesome video, Boyd. I wish I were a little more tech-savvy so I could post video. I took stills of it today because I knew I couldn't figure it out.

And boy-howdy I'm a bad photographer! Going through my pictures and every darn one of them is framed wrong or has a random person milling about or something that I botched! The pictures I took today could've been pretty awesome if the camera had been in the hands of somebody that had a clue!

Re: Big Boy Pics

Nothing looks better than a steam locomotive running at full tilt with smoke pouring out from the coal box.

Tighten it till it strips and back it off a quarter turn.

Re: Big Boy Pics

I saw the Big Boy when it was in Houston a few weeks ago.

I am a locomotive fan. I like the big 844 Northern as far as pure speed and power, but this thing is the ultimate definition of brute power on rails.

Well, I'm in that boat too. I managed the video but the kid had to post it to YouTube because I am deficient in everything computer. I can manage basic things like buying and selling on ebay but beyond that, I need his help. If and when he ever moves out I'm going to need some sweet sexy female to show me the way.
