Hagerty Ins Rate Increase

Has anyone seen a rate increase from Hagerty? A friend of mine says his has doubled. It may be a Louisiana thing... Never any claims from my friend. Going from 1600 to 3200.

We have Condon Skelly and they really keep the prices low. This year it went up but they also increased the value of the cars so that's ok with me.

Nope, mine has been a little over $500 per year for as long as I've owned my 66.

Re: Hagerty Ins Rate Increase

Got my renewal around August 2019 stayed the same but I ended up dropping back on the "Drivers Club" to the second gear level and saved some money. I pay $417 a year now insuring my car for $35k.

Mine was going to go up over $400 last year. I ditched them and went through Alex LaRue. Saved me $200 from what I was paying.

Re: Hagerty Ins Rate Increase

Yes, but only after I increased the value.

I bought my sled from an insurance broker and he signed me up with Hagerty for $125 a year. I thought I'd died and gone to insurance heaven. When I called Hagerty to increase the value after pouring excessive quantities of money into the car, it almost doubled. I don't think my cruck is worth that much though.

Sounds to me like your friend thinks his car is worth a lot of money. Or a lot of cars are getting stolen or mysteriously wrecked in La.

My friend has multiple cars on his policy and I personally know of three collector cars that were flooded in recent years. Mother nature might be catching up the rates.

Besides that we have a culture around here that promotes lawsuits for wrecks. "In a wreck, Get a check" is one of the taglines spouted by the personal injury crowd. Another well known lawyer is advertising that he has won over a Billion dollars for his clients. This is why we have some of the highest car ins rates in the country...

Re: Hagerty Ins Rate Increase

When I was shopping for collector car insurance (my car was on standard insurance with my regular carrier for years), I felt Hagerty was WAY overpriced. Unless somebody can make the case that they are THAT MUCH better than their competition, I have to assume you are just paying for a name and a fancy magazine (which I like by the way, my buddy gives me his).

Re: Hagerty Ins Rate Increase

I haven't got my renewal yet but last year was around $425 IIRC for $35K agreed value, I got a speeding ticket last month in Ga. 91 in a 70 paid $403.25 today (took 2 weeks to get in their system lol) and was told I'll be getting another $200 fine in the mail in a couple weeks for the "Super Speeder" law wondering what that'll do to my rates on Hagerty and my other insur. Infinity, I'm also opting for being able to buy my car back if wrecked or stolen and recovered, I don't remember the cost for that though

If you don't tell them about the ticket, chances are they won't check.

Yep, my farmer's agent told me they don't check but grab names based on letters of the alphabet, all random. Didn't get checked for a dozen years, then get hit in consecutive years...but luckily had nothing new for them.

My Chevelle has stayed low for a long time. I think it was $120/yr 20 years ago, now it's $170.

But when I added the Caterham, HOLY CRAP. My total bill jumped to over $600/yr. And that was before they found out I take it to track nights (when I bought their track insurance).

But, parts are expensive as hell, and have to be ordered from the UK.

As usual, Andy is right
If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway.

I have to keep reminding myself this isn't a Z16 convertible, Evening Orchid Camaro, or factory 1966 SS427 and get on with it.
