Warren Oates in the GTO was pretty good in it too. Never really liked the GTO color much.
Guess I'm going to have to go watch it tonight instead of the BS politics on youtube, which has been a real show as of late.

Some of the best car movies had terrible acting, weak plots, and crummy dialogue. It's part of what makes them great. John Carpenter should have used cool cars in his movies. They'd be classics.
Re: It’s been a while since I’ve seen a “good” movie
I always prefer older films to newer ones. The main reason is, today they find a person with a severe case of Parkinson disease and hand them the camera. I'm not sure what happened to holding the dang camera still while filming.

Stephen King's movie "Christine" (or should I say John Carpenter's movie from Stephen King's book) is one of my favorites, and has both good acting and a decent plot. It might or might not be considered a "car movie" although there are some cool old cars in it.

The best movies are the ones that you can turn on at any point, you know every line, and know what's already happened and what's about to happen in case you have to leave before it's over.
Animal House, Blues Brothers, Caddyshack, first and second Rambo, first and second Terminator, Rocky III, etc.
With the ups and downs on the volume bar to hear it, I still like it. The bad acting is what's great and the no plot and bad finish to it, is all part of it's uniqueness. There are subtle little things that I manage pick up on. Warren Oates with his imagination and lies is perfect in this day and age now. Yep, the ending leaves you breathless. heh heh.
Funny that the career of Dennis Wilson and James Taylor flourished and they became what they became later after this film. The girl, Laurie Bird, died of a Valium overdose at Art Garfunkle's apartment way back when. Love how Wilson is always checking the jets and the valves. You'll probably never see another one like it these days. It's too funny that we all keep watching this.
Shows we need more car movies.
5-6 times during the movie......<img src="http://www.chevelles.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Big Grin" class="inlineimg" />

Re: It’s been a while since I’ve seen a “good” movie
The original Gone in Sixty Seconds is a hoot, as well as the original Italian Job.
I'll fire that one up just to watch the opening credits of tooling around the Italian Alps.
To me, my favorite old school movie that is generally acceptable to most other people is "North by Northwest". I just plain enjoy watching it.
Re: It’s been a while since I’ve seen a “good” movie
If you haven't watched it, check out "Hollywood Knights". Set in 1965 (I think, it's been a while) with lots of great cars including Project X, a pretty good cast, and even a fair plot.
I was going to say that one as well!
I'll add in my favorite move for just plain good quotes and manly action. The Thirteenth Warrior. I actually got the Blu-Ray from Germany, none made for US. It got shunned by the studios, all kinds of funky stories about its production, but man, I love that movie. My father in law wanted a DVD player, just so he could watch that back in the day.
Also another favorite movie with zero relationship crap is Hunt for Red October, awesome book, great movie, actually all of the books were amazing from Tom Clancy, but that movie was good too.
And speaking of car stuff, anyone remember the Happy Days episode where they hopped up Richie's mom's car for a race at night? I recall something like swapping out intakes and other stuff, just for a midnight race. I'll have to dig that up and see what the internet says.
Re: It’s been a while since I’ve seen a “good” movie
I'm not a huge movie guy, but am going to see the Ford/Ferrari showing. 2lane is unique in that I can and will watch it at least once a year. Usually fall asleep, it's not thought provoking, or puts you at the edge of your seat, but the value is just short of experiencing an epic road trip with good friends....all from your armchair.
Re: It’s been a while since I’ve seen a “good” movie
If you would have seen "2 Lane Blacktop" in the theatre when it was released back in 1969, you'd have a whole different viewpoint on coolness...Coming out of the theatre there in San Francisco then, people couldn't stop talking about it..
