I miss how it was back in the sixties and seventies, when you walked out of the movie theatre feeling good..

Then you would enjoy "That Championship Season". both the 80's original and the 2000 remake. Actually the 2000 version is one of the very few remakes that I enjoyed more than the original.

Another one (this one with Spencer Tracy ) : "Inherit The Wind"

My all time favorite: "Billy Budd"
Like LAURA? That is a good one I think in that genre.

The second one follows the characters after high school. Toad and the Pharaoh become best buddies in Vietnam after being mortal enemies in high school. Showed how Toad came up missing in action - in reality he deserted when it became clear his commanding officer was deliberately trying to get him killed. The rest of the movie was hit or miss, didn't make much sense and lacked continuity.

Milner's scenes were the only ones worth watching IMHO.

It was on Netflix recently, but I don't know if it's still on there.

I can totally see that. Upon first viewing i really got a feel of the times.

Re: It’s been a while since I’ve seen a “good” movie

while searching ytube awhile back I stumbled on a scene with the "I just want to get off this ride" hitchhiker and Laurie Bird. The guy was driving the GTO and Laurie was his girl, they were searching for a place to picnic and whatever else. Quite a bit of dialogue in that scene but it never made the script. I visited a couple places along R66 like the former gas station in Tucumcari, think cicadas, the Needles park where Dennis changed the slicks for street tires, and Boswell Ok, where GTO was stealing the plate and passed out. That was a cool place to visit, everyone in town was my buddy since I drove the chevelle and they all knew I was a fan of the movie. The kids that were playing catch in the street were still residents and one of them was in the city hall and told some cool stories of the filming crew. Spectacular road trip!!

Re: It’s been a while since I’ve seen a “good” movie

Since I was in love with dirt track racing once upon a time. My favs were Six Pack, Kenny Rogers, quite an all star cast really. There was Stroker Ace, Burt Reynolds. The Last American Hero, Jeff Bridges. Now they got a new racing movie with Shania Twain and Travolta called Trading Paint, it's on Netflix or Prime I think. Of course we also watched American Graffiti, I remember the Tales From the Cyrpt episode. Also, Drive Like Lightening, that was a USA network movie about the Weevel daredevil car. It's on Youtube with terrible quality, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot was another, and I'm an Eastwood fan, so gotta watch Gran Torino...sorry to bring up a Ford, but I love how he parks it out in his driveway and sits on the porch drinking a beer while admiring his car. I'm guilty of that as well, but back in the dirt track days.

Hmmm, I guess I never looked at it that way. You make an intersting point there. I'll have to checkout those movies you've mentioned. I DO like action movies too, but I think it's just that the work of movie makers several decades ago seems to have been more admireable than that of the present day. Another example I can use would be an action movie, although a religous one "The Ten Commandments" they just cannot make movies like that anymore. Nothing compares. How about Ben Hur? Remember the chariot scene? Lotsa action, but crude from a technical standpoint. And yet, nothing of modern movies compares, other than some very few exceptions. The movie producers now a day seem to be more into quantity and volume rather than quality.
