Engine Dyno and Amazing Shop!

Its been a busy couple of weeks, Hurricane Dorian evacuation and all, but I got my new 331 stroker sbf run on an engine dyno at Atlanta Speed Shop in Gainesville Ga.

Have to say they are a really amazing and capable shop and one of the best car businesses I have ever dealt with. I learned so much just watching the setup and take down.

They have every engine machining tool you could possible want!

I hit a couple snags with vacation days and hurricanes and was not able to stay for the runs.

A couple of awesome Chevelles in there getting work done also.

Highly recommended!

My little sbf churned out just over 400 hp and 400 ft lbs at 6000 rpm! All that using a Holley 600 vac secondary carb on an Edelbrock Performer RPM, MSD dist and the shop headers on pump gas. The actual data sheet is now marked NT so I wont post it. I am stoked and cant wait to drive it!

Re: Engine Dyno and Amazing Shop!

what does NT mean? truth is, the dyno sheet and everything on it is yours as long as you paid the bill. They have no right whatever to try to limit you.

Re: Engine Dyno and Amazing Shop!

NT is no time, or sometimes written on the window as NTA, no time announced.

I see this at Test and Tunes now and again...

I am keeping the data close until it goes in the car and down a track.

Actually, my internet was down and I have not scanned the data sheet yet.

SBF is another kind of internal combustion engine... easier to work on than a Chevy, as only a BFH is required for a tool.

Re: Engine Dyno and Amazing Shop!

Good numbers out of it. Too much more and "SBF" stands for Soon Broken Furd if a stock block was used.

Re: Engine Dyno and Amazing Shop!

All joking aside, sbf's are no joke. I had a 393 9.5:1 windsor in a '91 fox body mustang, went 9.70's at 137-138 on a 200 shot. Power windows and locks still worked in that car, could drive it anywhere. Skint lots o' ass up with that one, and no block grinding required to build it.

'71 chevelle, 468, TH400, 12 bolt posi w/3.08's, drinks a lot of 87 octane.

This is all too true.

I've been burned by that a couple of times not thinking about it. Looking for big blocks parts on Craigslist? DO NOT search for that LOL!

Never stop learning!

Re: Engine Dyno and Amazing Shop!

NICE RON!

I cant remember , is this a 5.0 or 351+?

Hey, I just sold my BBC to SLIP INTO a 55 FORD nostalgic drag car. The owner, Louie, loved the Chevelle, as he owned a 67 for a few weeks, which he basically stole $ from a friend moving out of town, put back together with a 69 402. Hadnt even driven it once, and took an offer he couldnt refuse. ....$3500! This was back in the late 70's. I cant wait to race Louie and my old engine! PS Lou is a retired Ford tech, who knows his way around a Chevy rat.

ITS ALL GOOD!

Hey Ron, the fella who makes some of the best BBCs in the country told me that the ET/MPH was what really mattered, not the dyno. Truth right there. Plus all this "corrected data stuff" confuses me, even though I'm numerate in other fields. MPH wont lie about power. No "correction" needed!

Get it between some fame rails!

Or in the case of most muscle era Fords, between some uni-body shock towers.

Re: Engine Dyno and Amazing Shop!

Ok, 331 Scat stroker in a 97 Explorer block, AFR 185 heads, 9.5 to 1 compression, Comp XE274Hr cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM, Holley 600 vac secondary carb, MSD dist. It will go back in the 82 Mustang in a week or so. Best run was 415 hp, 400 ft lbs, max 6200 rpm. But that included a 1 in carb spacer that I don't have room for under the hood. Crank was fun, 28 oz old style balance, but in a one pc rear seal design, set up for four bolt balancer stuff, large flexplate. Love the wonders of machining!

It replaces a 68 block with a stock 78 crank and rods, forged TRW pistons, with 94 F150 heads, an 87 Rhodes lifters vvt 211 cam and lifters, 80 Capri 255 front dress, same intake and carb. Best was 7.80 at 89 mph. This last engine was put together in 1987 and has 100k street miles and has served me very well.
