Re: Used pickup prices

I have done well in the past trading up my Toyota pick ups. i have been kicking around the idea of getting a newer Tacoma, as NE winters have been rough on the underside of my 2011 Tacoma. Seems like prices on trucks are just off the charts right now, and it doesnt make sense to buy a low mileage piece when a new one isnt that much more money. I like the newer Colorado's too, but even those are stupid expensive. I cant really justify spending that much on a vehicle that i primarily drive in the winter, in the worst conditions. i did well buying the 2011, it was 2 years old with 70,000 miles on it. perfect vehicle for me since i put about 5k miles a year on it. looks like those days are over though.

Re: Used pickup prices

It's amazing what they want for a used anything anymore. Pick-up trucks used to be one of the cheapest things you could buy brand new, not anymore.

Re: Used pickup prices

Used pickup truck prices are insane b/c new pickup truck prices are more insane. It's not uncommon to see loaded, full size pick ups going for over 70K. Not sure how someone can spend more than a new Corvette on a truck....or 30K more than a nice Camaro, Mustang, or Challenger......but that's just me.
I live in the Snow Belt of NE Ohio. 4WD is a must. The sticker on my 2018 Colorado Z71 with crew cab and a short bed was 40K. I paid "only" 30K b/c I bought it used with 2900 miles on it and full warranty. It's very nice and can comfortably seat five full size adults. It can tow 7000 pounds and can get over 25 MPG on the freeway when I baby it. But I still can't believe that I spent 30K on a used truck. But cars are just silly expensive now. (I also couldn't take another month in my old 2008 Trailblazer that had stuff breaking every month....or so it seemed.)
Back when I bought it in February, the Ford Rangers had just come out. I couldn't "put together" a Ranger that I liked for less than 38 or 39K....before tax.
BTW: my "midsize" Colorado is the same size as a neighbors 2002 F150. The new Colorados, Tacomas, and Rangers dwarf the old S10s and Rangers.

I am not sure if they are cheaper here new than in the US. Its the 35 percent difference in the dollar I believe is why they are all going south. I am helping my son look for a 2001 -2010 chevy 4x4 within a certain budget. Everything is rusty with lots of miles.

Re: Used pickup prices

From my other post the Dodge pickup for $77k MSRP was about twice the MSRP price of my 2017 Challenger GT I have now. I have had 6 brand new Chevrolet pickups over my lifetime, 2 S-10's one of which was a ZR2 extended cab and 4 full size Chevy regular cab short box trucks with 3 of them being 4x4's. I don't think any were over $35k and they were fairly well optioned. Today it's hard to even find something in a regular cab short box that is American made. I know there are some good deals going now on trucks like 20% off MSRP but even at that the $77k Dodge only comes down to around $61,600 which is still too high.

I went to a Chevy dealer a month ago looking for a 3500 dually (which I didn't get). I was offered 27k for my 2016 2500 as a trade. And its only a basic work truck.

Re: Used pickup prices

Last year I priced a used Toyota Tacoma at the local Chevy dealer by my home. It was 2 years old , loaded and in beautiful condition. I inquired online and did a finance workup. 5K down and 60 months worth of payments. I went On Toyota website and worked up the same truck new with same money down and payments were $20. A month cheaper because of the interest rate new vs used. Didnít by the truck but it would have been a no brainer.

Re: Used pickup prices

If you are into a new truck,do what I do. Wait for the next model year to show up on the lot and buy the current model. Last year I traded my paid for 2011 DurtyMaxx and my 18 ZL1 Camaro in and got an 2018 High Country dressed in red, 6.2 8 speed in trade. That truck was $64k on the sticker. I has $22k in equity on thee Mullet Car, so you can guess what they gave me in trade on the diesel.

In May, grandma passed so I traded in her 17 Cruze and the wifes 16 Malibu and got a smoking deal on an 19 High Country DurtyMaxx 4x4. Sticker on the diesel was $74k. The body change really helped the selling price of the 19. I got $14k off.

Couple of junkers and a few clunkers.

That’s the exact issue I ran into Jim. Used hi mileage diesel trucks were expensive. I ended up special ordering a diesel truck, 2017 F-350 Drw 4x4 crew cab, XL peasant model, how I wanted it for under $55k.
