New cars basically all look the same, they are butt ugly. New cars these days have no class like the older cars of the 50s-60s-70s did

Re: Dealers with 2 year old cars unsold

I work in service at a Ford dealership, and I'd be scared to own a new car without a warranty on it. Recent case in point, a '18 F-150 came in with ALL electronics, including a/c, dead. The problem was a cracked taillight that let moisture in and corroded the sonar module that is built into it. The data line is in series, so that failure took everything else out. BTW, that is a $900 taillight... not warrantable due to damage. And he had a $1,000 deductible on is car insurance...

With GM and UAW nearing the end of their contrct in a couple days it may work out well for GM to sell the left overs since they won't have new any new one's being built.

Ford Tough!

The US manufacturers just canít stand us having durable vehicles. Make it to be vulnerable to failure and donít support it very long with replacement parts. Good thing the Cubans donít have any newer cars. Theyíd all be walking.

I can see a cottage industry springing up that takes old cars and repurposes them with readily available systems.

Re: Dealers with 2 year old cars unsold

Extended warranties are a crap shoot. I had one on my 2013 Fusion and never used it, everything that needed to be fixed was done under the 3/36. I need to decide if I want one on my blue 2018 Fusion, the car has been solid, no issues except for a stray rock that got stuck between the pad and rotor. It does have a 5yr/60,000 mile factory powertrain warranty. We bought it in March a year ago and my wife already has 29,000 on it so a warranty will only last 3 years.

I bought one when I got the Excursion and I am glad I did, I used the heck out of that thing even with a $100 deductible.

GM stuff is no better, if anything its worse. In 11 years with Lexus, I never did one engine replacement, I have FIVE in the shop right now and I'm only one advisor. Same with trans work, I've done 3 complete units and a dozen trans-out repairs in the last 30 days.

And a $110 oil change, $114 air filter and a $235 fuel filter on a F-250 6.7 diesel ain't a wallet emptying experience?

Re: Dealers with 2 year old cars unsold

Maybe part of the problem is design cycles are so long now. No need to discount the 2018 when virtually nothing changes over 5 years. My 2015 Colorado looks exactly the same as the 2019's. Perhaps they should start selling on generation, rather than calendar year.

$110 for a dealer to do it? That is cheap. I am close to $100 for my 6.0L doing it myself. $235 for fuel filters? In 6.7L they must be gold.

Good point but it might upset the automotive food chain.
