Re: Our Cars.. Sad but true..

my 68 el camino ended up going to Sweden. I wished I could have found a buyer for my 66 el camino in days. I've thought about down sizing and selling 1 of my cars but stuff like this makes you realize its hard to find a decent project today, it's going to keep getting tougher as time marches on. jim

Re: Our Cars.. Sad but true..

It's nice to see the increased demand. Sure, they are leaving the country, but that doesn't mean they can't come back at some point. The demand will encourage restoration and repair of cars that would otherwise be scrapped and more will be saved and put back on the road.

As usual, Andy is right
If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway.

I have to keep reminding myself this isn't a Z16 convertible, Evening Orchid Camaro, or factory 1966 SS427 and get on with it.

I sold a BB 71 Elco years ago, and after I took the money, I found out it was going to Holland, and I told the guy, if I had known that I may not have sold it to him. He said he would double his money.

Re: Our Cars.. Sad but true..

What this tells me is that if Americans balk at paying market prices for classic cars, others around the world will gladly do so. Sounds good to me, as the domestic market seems to be drying up for nicely restored muscle cars.

Just curious, where did you guys advertise your cars when you sold them overseas?

Re: Our Cars.. Sad but true..

As us old guys die off, I don't believe there will be near enough younger folks willing to pay what we have been paying for muscle cars. As a result, prices will either decrease or foreigners will enter the market and pick up the slack.

Nothing new at all. I recall Glenn Lever selling his ElCamino to a buyer in Italy, what 10 years ago. It wasnt rare back then. Sure aint now.

Re: Our Cars.. Sad but true..

My old 64 chevelle went to California. Isn't that considered a foreign country anymore??

We attend Back To The Fifties every year here in MN. 12-13,000 cars in the fairgrounds on that weekend (this weekend!). There are foreign buyers walking around with cash looking for cars to buy and export. Last year we were parked next to a guy that had a beautiful '55 Chevy for sale. Don't remember the asking price, but it was very expensive. Guy from Japan walks up, looks at the car and says he'll be right back. We thought, "yeah, right". Within 15 minutes he was back with cash, bought the car, and ended up buying 2 more muscle cars that the seller had at home. We saw the seller the next day. He told us he deposited $150,000 into his bank account that morning.

It's very tempting to put a For Sale sign in my '57 wagon every year we attend.

When I works, I works hard.
When I sits, I sits loose.
When I thinks, I falls asleep.
