No old iron on the st anymore?

Those early Sat and Sun morning drives to avoid amateur hour....used to always see a few. In over 4 yrs I have seen exactly 2...a big block 70 'bird owned by a wrench and a 72 BB camino owned by an older guy its his one and only driver. .

Anyone else?
Last area I lived in was highly populated....this one is smaller town and poor. No cruise nights, no GTG at all.

Re: No old iron on the st anymore?

I see them all the time around here.
My shop is across the street from a hot rod guy.(Hot Rod Steve)He has about 15 cars from the 50`s to 70`s.He just had a 69 Camaro convertible out today.
And people stop by all the time for him to work on their cars or just to stop by and BS.
It`s like a car show every day, all summer.

Re: No old iron on the st anymore?

I see something from the 60ís or early-70ís almost daily driving around. They are very common parked in driveways, in most areas you will see one parked in front of a house every two or three blocks. They may not be true muscle car, such as SS396ís, GTOís or Charger RTís, but I donít think that really matters nowadays.

Re: No old iron on the st anymore?

During the summer weeks I drive my 'Bu on back streets (they're safer) and often see Collector Cars parked in garages in various states of disrepair. I hardly ever see old Daily Drivers due to the infamous weather here. There is this one guy (he manages a local body shop for his ex -- she got the shop in the divorce) who drives his mint condition, original paint, unrestored 1972 Chevelle (Malibu, 2 Door, Hardtop, 307, PG) to work every day during both weeks of summer.

I saw a Monza with a canoe strapped to the roof the other day. Does that count??

It's not how it used to be around here either. I'll still see them from time to time, but it's more of an event now unless there is a show going on somewhere. Heck, I see a third gen F-body on the road now and it's a "Hey, look at that" moment.

Re: No old iron on the st anymore?

It shocks and pains me to know there are so many old cars and hotrods in my area that are not driven, just sit in garages.

I know what you mean.
There`s a 69 Chevelle just around the corner from me that I have not seen out of the garage, ever? And I know a guy that has a 69 Chevelle SS 396 that he has had since high school (Before 1977) that never gets out of the garage?
The hell with it...I`m taking mine out today!

Re: No old iron on the st anymore?

Me too. I'm taking my baby out too.
Around here, every day is a winner weather wise, or just about and the hail might be the only thing to watch for. How lucky to be in a state like this one, where the air is clean , sort of, the sun is out allot and the women all wear very little. Makes for fun cruising. Just have to make sure to keep your eyes on the road at times. Heh heh.

Re: No old iron on the st anymore?

Cars and coffee....this town is pretty lousy really (high crime).
Would be nice but cant stop anywhere without getting approached from some meth head. Seriously its every time.

With all the retirees ought to be some old cars...

Re: No old iron on the st anymore?

Over the last month the cool old cars have been coming out of the wood works here. I've been driving my nothing special 67 Belair 4 door sedan survivor for almost a month now.
