Iíd bet he get close to the maximum sentence. That was a race car, it wasnít some dumb kid with a slightly modified car that got carried away. He deserves to spend a significant time in prison. He knew what he was doing and should suffer the consequences for his actions.

I'm certainly not condoning street racing, but I would wager to bet there are quite a few members on this forum that have done so in their younger years - count me as being one...

Re: son of street racing icon charged in houston injury crash

It happened during TX2K. I know a few people who haul their cars 1200+ miles just to take part in some of the street shenanigans during that event. Lots of money is made and lost betting on street races.

I've never been there, and have no interest in it myself.

The sheriffs says they will destroy the drag car very publicly - wow.... I smell the white phosphorous already..... "unass all that metal" ..... WILLIE PETE!

Bad scene all around.

Btdt in the '80s but with much less of a car and much tighter policing of ourselves. These guys seem incredibly wreckless by comparison. The audience shares in the blame but you can't convict them of assault.
I'd bet Big Willy didn't operate like this.

That show sucks and I hope the network gets sued for promoting illegal racing.

Not many of us had 1000hp race cars built by a speed shop.

Re: son of street racing icon charged in houston injury crash

Back when we used to participate in such activities 25 years ago, it still wasn't smart or safe. However, NO ONE was making the kind of power guys are making today (at least in my city). If you had something running high-11s, you were one of the fastest guys on the street. Todays "street car" power levels are right on the edge of disaster if you are not running on a sanctioned, prepped track IMO.

"Car will be destroyed"?
Hmm, sounds like a fair trial and quick hanging has already been decided.
In My America the sheriff does not have this authority, particularly absent the trial results and a court order.
Never watched this show, I don't even own a TV now, but I do still have a copy of our constitution at hand.
Also wonder just who exactly owns the car, punishing the driver, or his sponsors?
And yah, I've been know to play in the street on occasion, particularly when I was younger.

At these gas prices I want it 100+ octane, leaded, and my windshield washed!
