Corvette C8 Chassis Allegedly Can't Handle The Power...

There are reports that the upcoming C8 Corvette (mid engine) chassis can't handle the power of the top engine (rumors has it at around 1,000 HP). Hopefully they can get it figured out (if it is indeed the problem) AND that the ZR1 version will have that much power.

I'm hoping the C8 takes it to the next level so I can finally get myself a nice C6 for peanuts.

That's OK. I don't have the money to buy one and haven't liked their styling in years. I had a few a 65 and 2 67's and a couple of 88's. Even though the handling and creature comforts weren't there like they are today I'll take a 63 to 67 any day.

I agree with Hank...just watch any auction and see what 'Vettes bring the money. For me, a '63 split-window is it, faults and all! Your opinion may vary.

I'm starting to see C6s in the high-teens for manual trans, mid-teens for automatics. For the performance you get, that is peanuts!

My fave Corvette is a 58, which has lots of Chrome

With a nice HP 327 ci Fi and a 4 Speed Auto

with maybe a newer Chassis under it

Re: Corvette C8 Chassis Allegedly Can't Handle The Power...

I would love to have a 65-66-67, but that is way out of my price range.... however a C5 or C6 at the right price could easily find a new home with me.

Re: Corvette C8 Chassis Allegedly Can't Handle The Power...

I sold a 2005 C6 Z51 Convertible to buy a fully documented (original invoice, POP, maintenance documentation etc.) 1965 Malibu SS Convertible which I'd always wanted. Loved the way it looked but was not happy with how it handled, especially compared to my 1965 El Camino and of course the Corvette. I ended up selling it to a fellow in southern CA who apparently is happy with it. Ended up replacing it with a 2019 Corvette Z06 convertible which is an awesome vehicle which handles like it's on rails and accelerates like there's no tomorrow. Wish I could have kept the Malibu SS as I still have a soft spot for them. Pic of the Malibu SS was taken on 2-21-2015 just before handing it over to the shipper. One pic of the Z06 parked under the El Camino and the other on the 3rd floor showroom area of the dealer I ordered it from. I can't imagine the amount of power they're talking about for the mid engine C8 knowing how 650HP feels in the C7. Absolutely crazy!

Re: Corvette C8 Chassis Allegedly Can't Handle The Power...

Prototypes are built for working out the bugs. If the frame has some issues they will be reinforced. A mid engine Corvette is long overdue. World class at an affordable "for some" price.

GM will fix the issue before itís released, if a problem actually exists. I donít buy that a 1,000hp engine will be available, at least not right away. Too many fools without a lick of common sense will kill themselves of some random person going about their business. The headlines will latch onto the 1,000hp angle and run with it, the optics will be so bad I canít see GM releasing a car with that kind of power.

Re: Corvette C8 Chassis Allegedly Can't Handle The Power...

A true 1000hp car for the road is kinda dumb. It's power at an impractical level. (Which some very well may want obviously)

When these hit the road, there is going to be a lot of donor drivetrains to be had as the cars are going to get wrapped around poles in short order by people unprepared to handle what happens when their right foot hits the floor.

Maybe they need to slap the "Fiero" name on it and just make a new RWD Corvette.

Ask me in ten years; I'm not old enough to qualify to buy a newer Corvette yet.
