Whats best bait to catch a varmint....

I have a hoarder that has moved in one of my old 69 Chevelle parts car. He is worse than mice or rats.....a dang chipmunk, why do they chew the plastic off of wiring? He has out smarted my supplying him with rat poisoning so I have ordered a live trap and will try that route......just wondering what bait would be irresistible to the critter.....something that smells like wire insulation..lol...

They will eat many types of nuts. They also like corn and strawberries.

I like using un-popped popcorn. a few used in a havahart trap works great. No mess, cheap, and never goes bad.

I second the peanut butter. I have had a pack rat problem the last couple of years and they cant seem to resist it.

I put lettuce and cherry tomatoes in my live trap to catch squirrels, it works good with little critters, too.
I use a live trap but really want to take them swimming in a big bucket of water.........

Know this sounds stupid but grab a box of dryer sheets, the smellier, the better. Their sensitive noses can't handle the smell and move out quick. I had field mice move into my shed and start eating/messing everywhere. Tried traps but they just multiplied quicker than they snapped their necks. The dryer sheets got rid of them. Just have to resupply every once in a while as their power gives out over time.

^^^ this. I have been using dryer sheets in my boats, cars, RV's, ect for years and have never had a mouse problem, or any varmit. Some people use moth balls, but they are beyond nasty.

Same here, I can't prove that it works except to say that it has worked.

Re: Whats best bait to catch a varmint....

Dryer sheets.....I would have never thought of that. Would much rather keep them out than have to get them after they are in .....will most defiantly try that.....after the live trap and some peanut butter. Trap arrived late tonite so gonna bait him up shortly...thanks

I tried the dryer sheets it did noting significant that I could see, better off to spend your time to keep them out. But that is just me. Good luck
