Strange CL Ad

What the hell is going on with this CL ad?

https://brainerd.craigslist.org/cto/...723382270.html

"I am looking to sell my car so I can something different for winter. -- the situation with this car was my baby dad drove it with out a liscense and got the plates impounded. The title is currently flagged for whiskey plates, HOWEVER, THERE IS A FORM YOU CAN SIGN AT THE DMV STATING YOU HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SELLER OF THE VEHICLE. Then you won't have to drive with whiskey plates. The car drives just fine. You will need a trailer to haul the vehicle due to not having plates. I'm asking $2200"

For those of you who don't know, "whiskey plates" are a set of license plates that go to someone convicted of a DUI/DWI in MN. It's a form of public shaming in this state... Call it our version of "The Scarlet Letter."

Re: Strange CL Ad

I'm guessing somebody who is relaying information that they were told on the process. Whiskey plates won't follow to the next owner unless they also have whiskey plates. Selling a car with impounded plates can get tricky though, there are requirements that need to be met before the title can be transferred. Also, $2200 for a car with a salvage title and 200,000 miles?

That's one way to avoid a trip to the DMV. Sell off your issues to the next sucker.

They want a winter car? To me that IS a winter car!
Also, "baby dad". Salvage plates? Did this guy have a couple of hit and runs? lol

"my baby dad" means "my boyfriend, with whom I share a child." The plates have been destroyed, the owner now faces a battle with the DMV to get replacement plates, the Title, however is not a salvage title.

Re: Strange CL Ad

my baby's dad

Seller says it has a salvage title, maybe that has nothing to do with the whisky plates deal.

Wow, I like the public shaming, but how that can affect selling a car I don't understand.

Re: Strange CL Ad

Are the license plates supposed to follow the car in Minnesota?

Everything is a hammer, some hammers are better than others.

Could also mean a guy who is no longer a boyfriend.

Bigger Question......Who wants that POS, and why would anyone even care. That Generation of Malibu had a lot of problems, and with 200,000 on the clock....YOU GONNA BE WALKIN ALOT.....

Yes, unless it's personalized plates.

Your "baby dad" definition is how I interpreted it, too. I took it that the writer of the ad is female.

The ad states that the title is a salvage title ("title status: salvage").

Minnesota's whiskey plates always begin with a "W."
