found and purchased 1966 L78

Very excited about finding and purchasing a rusty 1966 L78 built in ATL residing in Atlanta. Gonna be a lotta work, engine turns over but i don't know what's inside. 3rd week of May build, heads intake and block match, engine numbers matching, M21 and 4.10 12 bolt i think if coded KK. Car is bucket seat console car that should be silver.
Will keep posted, if like last it will take me 10 years to finish.

Congratulations.

Would you be willing to tell the story of how you found it?

Re: found and purchased 1966 L78

I lived in Atlanta for 20 years. One of my best friends that I boated and rode Motorcycles with for 20 years, just saw my facebook pics of my 66 L78. He sent me pics of the car and said his dad purchased the car in 1975 from the original owner who purchased it at Days Chevrolet in Acworth GA. It is an ATL car. I knew his dad had a nice older corvette but he never mentioned the L78. I had been over to his dads house 1000 times and never saw it that I can remember. it has been deteriorating since about 86. He said he would trade it for a boat and motorcycle I have, so we traded and I will pick it up sometime in the next few months. Car has a lot of rust in the trunk and floor pans but not frame. Has all original parts, no exhaust manifolds since headers added.

Cool...

Even still has the idler pulley assembly (removed to check the deck stamp? but you can see it by the valve cover)...

Re: found and purchased 1966 L78

Congratulations, AWESOME find!

I think you got my number at the MD show. If you are bored on your way back up I-85 with the car, give me a shout and stop by the house! (I'm about 5 minutes off 85.) I'd love to see it in person! I have two unrestored 66 L78's (one ATL car) you might want to get some pics of too.

Thanks Jeff, I will definitely take you up on it. Not sure when I am going. Adding a few extra pics for your viewing pleasure. It will be a long restore process but worth it.
