Upon arriving we were escorted into the building where our car was under lockdown until the following day's events. Several of the other cars in the building belonged to Graveyard Carz' Mark Worman, who was a guest judge at the show.
Awesome...and thats a different case....if anything happened to your car it would be the casinos fault.

A hotel. Is still just a parking lot....

A hotel is the worse place for a hotrod. The people there are from all kinds of places, other states, at least in your town, most of the people there are from the same area.

Re: Stolen Chevelle

Dean , it typically is in a "sequestered" area. I recall the fella at the New England show coming up to me when I was fetching a pack of smokes from my parked car at midnite. At Can Am, we always had the overnight cars in a roped off area. It may be the deterrent effect of having an armed guard sitting in a vehicle nearby that helps. And I *always* bought the local sheriff's station a dozen donuts and asked them to drop by overnight.

And yes, I'd blow the glass out of my car if it was being lifted. Damn cleanup of the original interior wont be pleasant, but..... the issue really becomes lawful discharge of a firearm.....which can be tricky. Moreso than hitting the side of a skull thru glass. After the trailer heist at the MCC show, I did have an collapsible AR with a nice piece of "midnite" optics with me the next two years. Completely illegal in that state I find out. South of the Mason-Dixon line,. Who woulda thunk.

OK, start over, let's say you are standing guard at the show field with your side arm and you spot a show car leaving the hotel (where this one was stolen from) do you pull out your gun?
IF so, I ain't ever coming to your show.

Re: Stolen Chevelle

Dean for the record, all the security officers DIAL 911 FIRST if there is trouble. Although in your scenario, its too simple to read trouble. TWO, as said, in MCC and CanAm, the crs or trailers are "sequestered".

Now, unless it was my car, and yeah, I'd punch a few holes in the glass looking for gray matter IF the line of fire was safe. IF! MY car chief, not yours. No pedestrians. Good backdrop. Low probability scenario. LEOs file paperwork when they fire their weapon, us civilians are subject to massive liability.

I thought you knew the rules and that I was sort of kidding.......although, one might be surprised at the amount of iron carried on a Chevelle show field. It matters not in the middle of the night when these things happen however.

Now you know why they don't let me run car shows anymore too, so you dont have to worry about coming to my show. I do miss seeing you in Nashville however sir. Where good ol' DZAUTO broke out his nickle plated .44 when crap broke out one night. My kinda guy.

Re: Stolen Chevelle

Yes, Gene, I am certain there is a lot of heat at car shows, especially those events held in urban areas. My feeling is that only a suicidal maniac would attempt to steal some guy's "baby" from a hotel parking lot or restaurant in the neighborhood of a major car show.

Re: Stolen Chevelle

Just a comment.

You know, we never had a car stolen duting the Chevellabration events (if I remember correctly). For the most part, I attribute that to the fact that there were a few of us "standing guard after hours, cocked and loaded".
My philosophy on car show security has not changed!

Re: Stolen Chevelle

I used to have a job that was technically a "Security Guard", then was rolled into a Pinkerton… And what I always said about what an unarmed guard really is... They are an "Official Witness" nothing more. Unless it is small children, or a drunk or hobo, you can't intervene without endangering yourself, let alone helping others.

When I was in college in the late 60s, I worked at a chrome shop. After college when I got a much better job, the owner of the chrome shop would allow me to come down after closing hours and plate my own stuff. That gun is one of MANY things that I plated (it's nickle plated, NOT chrome plated).

Re: Stolen Chevelle

It seems like most of the cars I hear about that are stolen are from the hotels when everybody is asleep and nobody is around with a gun or at least nobody questions a car leaving, although I do remember one where the car was in a trailer and everything was stolen including the truck pulling the trailer. (don't remember where)

As people keep getting nuttier and crazier every day around the whole world, I'm afraid there's going to be more and more of a problem with our cars being stolen so we need to figure out some ways to stop it.
Maybe we should hire off duty cops to watch the hotel parking lots.

Insurance companies should be getting involved somehow since they are the ones loosing the big bucks.

Good to hear that your group is doing a good job at watching the show field Gene

Re: Stolen Chevelle

Even during daylight cruises and car shows our group never leaves our cars unattended. Someone who knows who's car belongs to whom is always watching.

And since completed, my car has never seen a parking lot, be it a hotel, restaurant, convenience store or auto parts store. Such a shame that it has to be like this, but I know people who have had their car 'keyed' or kicked while they were away only for a few minutes.

That car is too pretty to cut up...

Perfect shade of blue...love it.

I wonder how often these cars wind up overseas.
