Upon arrival of the Custom AutoSound DVC-4001 for '69 Chevelle without air the speaker looked impressive and would fit the bill with 140 watt capacity. However, the word "FIT" does not come into play here. As you can see by the photo, the bracket is 1-11/16" offset to the OEM speaker. This would require a new fabricated bracket. Also, the speaker itself does not cover the mesh in the dash, and wobbles when set in place. The solution would be to fab a cushioned splash surround where the speaker sets up on the underside of the dash. After Custom AutoSound was contacted about the ill fitting application, the response was "It's a direct fit and they have never had a problem". That would prove to be untrue if you do a search in the forums. I must have the only 69 Chevelle w/o air that this speaker won't fit. I would not recommend this "direct-fit" speaker unless you are ready to do some major fab work.
