Description: 5 speed overdrive transmission. Direct bolt in replacement for the Muncie 4 speed including shifter location. Minor tunnel modification required.
I purchased mine from Classic Chevy 5 speed in Southern California. The .76 OD ratio with a 3.73 rear end makes for a strong launch and a quiet ride on the freeway with 2200 RPM at 70 Mph (2000 at 65). Your wife will love it. You can actually talk while driving on the freeway. If you have a 3 inch offset shifter car be sure to order the McLeod offset shifter which is very solid and has a great feel to the shift. The stick comes right up through the console in the stock location. It bolted in easily, the technical support from the Classic Chevy guys was way beyond what I expected and after sale support IS ongoing. They didn't dump me after the sale.
If you are not stuck on everything being stock and you want a quick, quiet combination, this is the conversion for you. If you are on the west coast, there are none better than Jeff and Scott at Classic Chevy 5 speed. I am very pleased.... and so is my wife.

Pros
Makes driving on the freeway easy..and audible
Cons
Must modify the tunnel, but that's not much of a challenge.
I got my Tremec 5 speed conversion kit from Keisler, as I was converting an auto trans to manual. I went with the hydraulic TO bearing. All worked as advertised, with the exception of some small glitches in the clutch master (Keisler had switched suppliers and there was a delay in delivery). Keisler's tech support is excellent, and their console template and sheet metal does make for a clean installation. Most everything is included in the kit. With 3.55 rear end I now cruise at 70 MPH at about 2000 RPM and get 18MPG. Overall, this has made my 71 454 convert a blast to drive.

Pros
Great smooth shifting, lower RPM at highway speeds, nothing beats a stick for fun factor
I got my TKO 600 from Classic Chevy 5sped. Jeff and Scott are the best! Have 454 with 4:10 12bolt, lots of fun. Will buy next one from them also. Nothing like having someone who actually talks to you. Thanks guys. Jb
Bought mine through Classic Chevy 5 Speed. Thought I was getting an all inclusive kit with the pedals and linkage, much still had to be fabricated. After two master cylinders and and two slave cylinders, everything worked as advertised! Now they have everything straitened out (still out the extra costs of extra parts that did not work together), and there is nothing better that I have done to my '69. Thanks to Scott and Jeff.

I bought mine through Forte's Parts connection in Framingham, Mass. It didn't make sence buying it from Classic Chevy 5 speed as I am in MA and they are in Cali. Saved money by picking it up. Excellent service, had all my parts ready for pickup. Asked all kinds of questions to make sure I was getting all the right parts. Mike Forte personally delt with me and gave me his cell # if I needed anything. Very helpful.
After installing a Gear Vendors overdrive last year behind the muncie 4 speed I was dissapoint with 2600 rpm at 70 with 3.70 gears. The Gear Vendors unit is very well made but slams into overdrive much harder than I care for and gas mileage was not impressive 13-14 highway with a 325 hp 396.
This year is my 67 chevelles 40 birthday and for being 40 she got a new much stronger 454, tremec TKO 600 with the .64 overdrive and new paint (she was very excited). Now with a 500+ hp 454 I get a relyable 17 mpg, cruise 70 at 1900 rpm and its a blast to drive. I bought mine from Keisler Engineering, everything worked out as advertised, support was great. If your looking for an overdrive I would highly recomend the Tremec over other overdrives and the Tremec was not harder to install than the Gear Vendors unit which by the way did not install as advertised at all and support sucked.
