1969: The radio dials in this model year were completely redesigned. There was no longer any chrome and the pushbuttons were larger. The plastic dial scale lens now covered the entire front of the radio. To help I.D. 1969 units from the later units, please visit the MISTAKES page.

1969 AM PUSHBUTTON RADIO

Delco radio model number: 91APB1

The 1969 AM radios look identical to the ones found in 1970-1972 Chevelles, however, they are not the same. The lenses on 1969 and 1970 AM units both have green tinted numbering and a green "tint band" at the top of the dial unlike the 1971-1972 units. To determine whether a unit is a 1969 or a 1970, look at the rear harness connector. The radio connector on 1969 radios have four spade style contacts, unlike the 1970 units. See the difference?

1969 AM/FM (mono) PUSHBUTTON RADIO

Delco radio model number: 91BFP1

The 1969 AM/FM radios also look very similar to the 1970-1972 units. The "tint band" on the top of the dial lens is actually white in color (which helps distinguish them from other units), but under this is a green tint like the lettering and numbering. The harness connector is the same as the AM radios described above, only mounted on the left side of the chassis.

1969 AM/FM (stereo) PUSHBUTTON RADIO

Delco model numbers: 91BFM1 / 91BFM2

The 1969 AM/FM-stereo units can be identified by the following features: White "tint bands" on the top of the lens, a blue stereo indicator light in the upper right corner of the lens and the word Stereo printed just below the FM side of the slide bar. Although this was the first model year where there was a stereo indicator inside the actual radio's lens, this is not a one-piece stereo radio. The multiplex adapter box (shown below) was mounted inside the dash and connects to this radio for proper operation.

1969  HIDDEN  FM MULTIPLEX ADAPTER

Delco model number: 91AMP1

This multiplex adapter is the other necessary half of the factory stereo radio shown above. This was originally installed inside the dash by the factory.

1969 UNDER-DASH 8-TRACK PLAYER

Delco model number: 91BT411

This stereo 8 track cartridge player with the above model number would have been installed in vehicles without any FM stereo MPX equipment. Although many others look the same with the 2 left side knobs and the "bowtie" on the tape door, the model numbers reflect what kind of other audio equipment the units will or will not work with. See Database and Options for more info.
