1966: For this model year, the appearance of the radio's "face" was revised. The additional chrome was to compliment the surrounding mounting bezel installed in the dash of 1966 models. This was also the first year "CHEVROLET" appeared on Chevelle AM radio dials.

More chrome was one of the distinguishing features on the AM pushbutton radios. Also, the word "CHEVROLET" was printed above the dial scale. The fact that the chrome bezel slopes out towards the pushbuttons helps identify this radio from other 1966 Chevy models. Delco in script writing was placed on the dial between the "11" and the "14".

On 1966 units the pushbuttons were still flat in appearance like the previous years, but were produced with "ribbed" ends on the button tips. The 1967 AM pushbutton radios look almost identical, but they are not. On the 1967 units, the pushbuttons are slightly rounded on the front unlike the 1966 units which are straight and flat in appearance. See the difference?

Delco model number: 986529

The 1966 AM/FM radios look the same as the 1967 AM/FM radios, however, they are not the same. Besides the difference in pushbuttons described above, the slide bar (AM/FM switch) in this model year was pointed at the tip. Delco is printed above the dial window on the upper right-hand side. (Please note this radio is shown in-dash and the dial is broken--showing the AM band while the switch is in the FM position).

1966 FM MULTIPLEX ADAPTER

Delco model numbers: 986644 / 7296351

When connected to the AM/FM radio, FM stereo broadcasts can be received. The four knobs on the adapter control volume, tone, balance, and front-rear (fader). The center stereo indicator illuminates when a stereo station is tuned-in on the radio.
