Comment:
I had recently removed my 350 and was wondering how would I relocate the engine mounts to intsall a 454, right now it seems four bolts are holding the engine mount, if I move the engine mount forward, then only two bolts will secure the engine mount,is that suffienicent enough to hold a 454, or is there another method of conversion, any help appreciated.

You did not specify what year or model car you were swapping over, but.....in most cases, the big block will sit right where the small block came out......same frame brackets and motor mounts.....same holes. I know this to be true for 70-72 Chevelles.....I also did this w/ my 79 Z28....pulled the 350 and dropped the 396 right in.

The 454 bolts right in with no changes. Check out Tech Reference #10 - the small block to big block conversion article on this site.

454 will also fit in a 78 A body on same small block motor mounts and the stock hood will close with a GM high-rise intake using a low profile 14 inch air cleaner

OK, then could somebody clear up a little Question I have. Per , YEAR ONE, the 1969 model chevelle will need new frame stands to mount a bigblock in place of a small block as well as using bigblock enginemounts. In order to generate the proper mounting clearances for headers etc... any advise?

I cant speak personally of the 69.....when I was building a 72 Chevelle several years ago switching to big block I had a GM assembly manual. I got to noticing that the manual used the same frame mounts and motor mounts for the small block and the big block. SO...being 17 and thinking this must be some mistake, I called the Local Chebby dealer and they said it was correct. When I swapped the small block out of my 79 Z28 for the big block.....I went on this previous experience and it worked. The hood clearance was tight, but I put on a Harwood 3 1/2 cowl hood.

Your situation may call for shorter or taller frame mounts to provide different clearances for the small and big block........Do yourself a favor and get hold of a GM Assembly Manual for your car. These are available by vendors who attend most national shows and swap meets, or you may even be able to get one thru Year One.
