De-coding "Build sheets"
Chevelles from 1964 - '72 have a small strip of paper, about 2 inches wide
by 8 inches long or a square about 5 inches by 7 inches that is usually
buried in the cotton stuffing of the rear seat, in the backrest
of the front seat, or drivers bucket. If you are lucky enough
to find this, (the mice usually have other plans for it) then
photocopy it immediately and put it back, the last thing you want
is to lose it after having it right under your butt for so long.
If you make a copy and replace it you are ensuring that the next
guy (hey, we all know you plan on keeping this one forever!)
can enjoy the thrill of "finding" this original documentation.
Build sheets usually confirm what the Cowl tag will
tell you, but in more depth.
The option codes on this page are for 1967's ONLY, but by popular request I have created
The
Big Bulleted List of Chevelle Options for 1964-72. (will also apply to Camaros etc, but double check these).
Build sheets consist of the following information:
If you can find your build sheet, then just look up the codes in the available lists and you'll know for sure what your car originally came with. No arguments.
Please note: these (#installed) numbers are
the amount of optional equipment installed, eg, dual exhaust was
not an installed option on an SS 396 as it was considered standard
equipment, same with a clutch fan on an air conditioned car as
the fan would be part of the CO6 option code. Got it?
