Enjoy 1969 chevelles and would like to talk to people who do the restoration work
themselves.
Presently have orginal matching numbers'69 SS body off frame, hanging it from my
ceiling in
garage to get it out of the way. This car has the orginal GM heater hoses on it.
Question. On VIN plate, someone at the factory manually stamped a "2" on the left side
and a "10" on the right side of BODY BY FISHER identify plate on firewall.
Anyone know what this means?
This is a HT SS396 4 speed posi, buckets, etc. Any ideas?
Thanks, Gary

Hope someone can help. My wife and I had this car longer than some of our kids!

My first vehicle, inherited from my parents, was a 1967 Chevelle
Malibu station wagon. Of course I had to put bigger tires and
magnesium rims on it, and fix up the interior, new paint, etc.
Many people laughed when i started, but many ran up to the car
with offers afterwards. Like most college students, I had to sell
the Malibu, and I've always wanted to find another since.
So, if you know anyone with a station wagon in good shape,
I'd be interested in hearing from them. I've only ever seen one
since (13 years), in North Vancouver, BC. I sold mine in Chetwynd,
BC probably around 1981.
Thanks for your enthusiasm, Al. I checked the Internet a year ago

Hello, just browsing this morning and found this very interesting
site. I have a 72 Chevelle I bought in South Miami after Hurricane
Andrew blew everything away in 1992. I spend 2 1/2 years working on
the car. It may not be 100% show car but my wife and I sure enjoy
riding around in it. Thanks enjoyed my visit here, will be back.

here are no other SS markings anywhere on the car,
but it does have the centre console and buckets.

I own a '68 Chevelle Malibu that starting to look pretty good.
The grunt is provided by a chromed out "RAT" Generation V 454-425hp
topped off with an Edelbrook 750 carb. The rubber to road is supplied
by a TH-400 tranny w/4:11 gears and Street Shot 2500 stall converter.
I changed the brakes over to power disc last year so I could stop
the thing. This has been the most satisfying car i have ever owned
and turns heads every time i drive it.
Take care and keep those Chevelles running strong.

I consider it "preserved" not restored. It has a 307, factory
air condition and tinted windows. It's all original down to
the AM radio 'cept for the 15" Craigers I put on it )

I am just starting the restoration of a 1970 Malibu. I picked it up for
only $400 from a retired old man who bought it new, original title and all!!
It has only 76,000 original miles and was undercoated twice in its life,
so the metal is in excellent shape.
I have already done some mods to it that the stock junkies will hate,
but it's my ride so I'm building it to my tastes! The rear bumper has
been changed to a 71-72 type as I really liked the looks of the round tail lights.
I've also converted the entire interiorto a black bucket seat interior from
the original blue bench style.
I'm currently keeping my eyes open for a console/shifter (automatic) to
finish off the interior. The stock 200hp 307 will be replaced with a 380hp 350
by next summer hopefully. The entire suspension is being upgraded.
Power disk brakes and power steering have already been installed.
The finishing touches will include a working cowl induction hood and a full
coat of glossy black paint (including the front bumper). When it is all finished
I'll definitely send a pic this way, but don't hold your breath!!
With the finances and work ahead of me, I don't expect it to feel the road until
the summer of 98. Chevelles forever!!!!

- Rick Eckenrode owns a '69 SS 396, shadow grey with
black SS stripes. This SS features an L78, M20 4spd and a 12 bolt 3.55 posi.
Options include guages, buckets, light package, automatic trunk opener,
headlight washers, rear defogger, AM-FM, cushion grip wheel, bumper guards
and is restored to factory original. If you would like to have a look at
this excellent SS it can be seen on the Maryland Chevelle Clubs page.
- Al Garrow from Northern Michigan has been tinkering with a 71 Chevelle
for the past couple of years and is planning on buying a '68 and a '70 real soon.
... nice combination al.
- Al Javoroski, from Wisconsin has a '67 Chevelle that was totalled in 1995 and he is now in the process of rebuiding it. Al says the car was an original WI car and is obviously in need of some cleaner body parts.
- Greg Czerwonka, from the University of Illinois has a '73 Chevelle that he is the second owner of... but it is not your average Chevelle!
As Greg says:
- I just bought a 73 Chevelle Station Wagon SS 454. I'm told it's
pretty rare. It's got 9.5:1 heads, a hot cam, headers , and a Holley 800
CFM carb. It's by far the fastest station wagon I've ever seen. Just
the sound of it makes me grin from ear to ear, even if it's a station
wagon. The good news is that I got it from the original owner with good
paperwork, and all of the original engine parts to go with it.
- John, is restoring a '66 SS396 375hp, with an M22 4 speed,
but needs a rear differential to complete the drive train.
John is from Primos, Pa and asks if any body can help him find vinyl
top moldings or a 12 bolt for his car.
- Chris Martinus, (chris@iosys.com) joins us from Johannesburg, South Africa! Chris has a stock '69 Malibu with a 307, powerglide. His Malibu is black with a beige vinyl top.
Chris adds:
- It's just a bit more difficult restoring Chevelles here in South Africa,
since shipping & payment to suppliers in the USA is more of a hassle.
Fortunately, mechanical parts are pretty widely available here!
- C Dobson, (WiredUp@ix.netcom.com) 1970 Chevelle, Salt Lake City, Utah
- Clay Neidigh is restoring a '70 SS 396 in Martinsville, In. Clay has the engine rebuilt and is getting ready to spray the frame so he can install the engine and finish the body. He has all the interior pieces except for a good dash... someone had ripped out the original gauges and replaced them with aftermarkets. If you know of a good dash for a '70, please let Clay know.
- Tryggvi Gunnarsson, owns a '72 Chevelle and is looking for a few spare parts, which is not as easy as you may think..... Tryggvi joins us from Iceland!
- Len DiGirolamo, from Pittsburgh, PA has owned his '69 SS 396 for about 10 years. Len says his car needs a little TLC but it can still run 14.0s in the quarter. The whole family enjoys taking it out for the occasional car cruise in the summer.
- Dan Spencer, from Auburn, Washington got his first car (a '67 Chevelle) a few months ago, good choice too! Dan thinks he is now hooked on Chevys and feels he will be in the car hobby for a long time. Great to have you with us Dan!

- Anastacio Quintana, '66 Chevelles, joins us from Edinburg, Texas.
- Richard Pflugradt is in Riverside and owns a blue '72 Malibu with white SS stripes that is used as a daily driver. Richard got a super deal on this Malibu and plans to hang on to it for a long time. He would like to hear from other Chevelle owners about how he can 'stay smogable and still smoke the strip'.
- Michael Scott from Toronto Ontario, is building a '64 Malibu that will have a 350 with a 780 Holley, Offy intake and Hedman Headers. Gear changes are handled by a Muncie M-20 (wide ratio) 4 speed sending the power back to a 10 bolt posi with 4.11's. The chassis is fully detailed and rebuilt with all urethane bushings and body mounts. March 3rd, '96.... Michael updates....TheM-20 could not be saved so it has been replaced with a mint T-10. The engine is currently under construction with the addition of Dart Sportsman heads and a Speed Pro 287 degree cam.
- Brian Benthin owns a '69 Chevelle with a mildly built 350, TH-350 with a TransGo shift kit, 2200 stall with a B&M Megashifter and a few other performance goodies. Brian would like a 10 or 12 bolt posi rear end with 3.73 or numerically lower gears to complete this package. Brian is in Seattle, Washington
