Cool Burned Fuse

I had my electric fan connected to the battery fused panel under the dash of my 67 chevelle. The fan wires got to close to headers and burned insulation off wires and burned my fuse out. I replaced burned fan wires and fuse but it still keeps burning fuse out even with elec fan disconnected. This fuse terminal is marked clock, lighter, courtesy and hazard.

Thanx Maliblue67@comcast.net

Does the fuse blow with the fan wiring disconnected from the fuse box? Wires may be melted elsewhere, shorted to ground and blowing the fuse. Electric fans draw to much current to be wired from the factory fuse box. They really should be wired with a relay. A relay is a electrically operated switch. It takes less than a 1/4 amp to operate the switch side of the relay "85 and 86" while "30 and 87" carry the heavy load. Wire "30" from the horn relay or the battery depending on which side the fan wire are on.

Hey Greg thanks for reply. Yes its still blowing fuse with fan disconnected. I tried following wires in harness to brakes lights, dome, hazard, ign, clock and disconnected them but it still blows fuse. Im getting ready to give up if you have any ideas how to find short let me know. Thanx

I don't have a 67 wiring schematic but I have a 70 and most yrs are similar. From the fuse box a 16g Orange feeds to a junction point which splits off to feed the Cig lighter, dome lights and the clock. Disconnect these items and see if the circuit is still drawing power ( you can use just a test light between the fuse clips ) Was a larger fuse ever put in, if so you may have melted the contacts behind the fuse box causing the short, and you will have to pull it to look and see.
