Default Replacing upper control arm bushings

The bushings that sit in the rear housing ..how difficult are they to replace with the rear in the car ? 66 Chevelle

I want to replace the arms and they come with the bushings installed
the ones in the housing ,,well you know they can't come installed.

This job would be done on the ground with a creeper and no air tools

Thanks for your input

That's how I did mine. A big hammer and socket to match the size of the bushing worked fine for me. Not ideal, but not really that difficult.

Used a big drill, slowly through the rubber to remove the existing bushings.

Ok so removal is the hard part then ?

why a drill?
Have to rip them apart to get them out ?

you have the top control arms out.
disconnect 2 shocks, 2 bolts on lower arms, 1 rubber brake hose, parking brake cable, and a driveshaft.
put the rear on a 4-wheel dolley.
and you now have the rear out from under.
makes the job real easy.

The rubber is impossible to just force out. Drilling through the rubber frees up the center sleeve for removal, then the outer sleeve can be forced out. Some people burn it out, but I've found with a drill it only takes a few minutes.

INSTALLATION is the hard part IMO, removal was pretty easy.

You can also use a ball joint press to push out and push in and not even need the Ford tool to hit with. (after you get the housing out on the floor) OLDED

The method mentioned in the last post at the bottom of that thread is the one I used. Worked like a charm.
