One of my friends has a 67 rear body. it has no trunk or floors. the shell of the body is in mint condition. So now I have a couple of questions.

Since it's just a shell hwo would someone go about putting a frame under this car? Is it a bolt on thing or a weld on thing. Secondly whats the cost on something like that (the body itself)? What kind of work is involved?

I did the same thing to my 72'. I found a body that needed a new trunk but the rest of the body was perfect. I would have to replace everything on the original body.

I took off the complete front end and unbolted the body from the frame. I found two donut spares and put them on the rear to lower it. I then used a engine hoist to pick up the rear of the body. I jacked up the front with a floor jack high enough to clear the rear tires and supported it with stands. Then i just pulled the frame forward till cleared and supported the old body.

The body I bought was on casters so i rolled it behind the frame and did the same thing to put it on. The only cost I had was the body and some cinder blocks and 2 10X2's.

If you have anymore questions, post them and i'll try to answer.

No, its no that it needs a new trunk it has none. or floor board for that matter. If it had these things I could have assumed that it could have been done that way, but good idea with the engine lift.

If I am reading you correctly your friend has a body (not on a frame) that has no trunk or floorpans? If this is the case, you might have more than you bargan for, if the braces are also removed. The body could have twisted and flexed.. The frame is normally a bolt on thing, I would recommend getting measurements and making sure the body is still square, and where it is supposed to be. then put the floors in, and then get a frame under her. An assembly manual will do you WORLDS of good to get right now... Good Luck! A little more description would help out much more.

That right you are 100% percent correct. I Dpnt think the body twisted he has it in the rafter at his shop for the last 10 years. Supported well. I will look into the measurement as a just in case though thanks.

As far as putting floor boards in this thing, what would I weld them to? I am used to seeing the body on the frame. Would it be the same thing?

My first question is, why is there no floor or trunk if the car is mint? Was it removed because of rust damage or to repair another car? If it was removed because of rust damage I can tell you you will find more will be needed to fix the car then a floor and trunk.

To answer your question the floor is welded to several areas. First there are three braces that go side to side, the first right before the front seat, the next behind the seat and the third under the back seat where the floor has that step up. Those braces weld to the inner rockers and the underneath of the floor.

Now the floor is welded to those braces and also the rocker panel and the inner rocker where the still plate sits. Also there will be some braces on the inside of the quarter that weld to the floor and the panel that holds the quarter glass in...visible with the interior quarter panels removed. There is a seem where the floor meets the trunk floor, that brace that connects to the package tray to the floor this is where the floor and trunk meet. Also in that area they weld to the inner wheel wells.

The floor will be welded to the firewall, will be a visible seem and also to the kick panels or cowl panels.

Replacing an entire floor and trunk is no easy task and even harder if no remaining floor is there to give you a clue on where to start. Before I started this project I would look farther into this car and see what excatly is removed and make absolutly that the car is not twisted. Just because it is sitting up on rafters and looks well supported doesnt mean it is. Ask any body man how fun and easy it is to straighten out a twisted body...its not!
