Does anyone have tips or info on the antenna install on a 67. I have the base on and finger tight, but I can't seem to hold the backing plate with my fingers. Is there a way to get to this without taking the fender off? I have the cowl off right now. Will removing the inner fender help? Thanks guys.

I don't know if it was factory or if someone had re-routed it but, when I had my heater box off from under the hood, the entire antenna setup was very accessible right thru the opening. Just a few bolts, and the box is off. Like I said, I don't know if it came that way but that's how mine was.

sorry if this is a bit off topic but iv seen some 67's with the antenna on the rear fender. Did the ss's have the antenna on the back or do people just put them there since they look better?
iv seen ss's with the antenna on the front fender but they could be clones, so im confused...

Someone will surely chime in with more knowledge than me, but the front vs. rear antenna, I think, is an AM vs. AM/FM deal. AM/FMs are in the front, AM only in the rear. Could be wrong, that's just what I think.

Here's the deal, if you had no radio you got no antenna, if you had an AM radio you could have the normal front antenna or the optional rear antenna (the rear one cost $9.50 extra), and if you had an AM/FM radio you got the front antenna only. That's all there is to it, hope I cleared it up. As for installing the antenna I have always had to remove the inner fender but if you find another way let us know.

I believe that this is correct for 1967, SS or not: The standard location for the antenna was on the right-front fender, for both AM and AM/FM radios. The antenna for AM/FM was fixed-length, and the antenna for AM radios was telescoping. The rear-mounted antenna was an option for AM radios only.

Well, I'm not sure as to what the rules of the antenna were, but mine has a AM radio with a antenna on the front fender. It looks like that area is to far back to be accessed by dropping the inner fender, but I may be wrong. It just looks like it is not possible.

What was the dealer code for AM rear antenna option? Why are correct rear antennas so hard to find?

Correct antennas are not hard to find, Denny Turner in Florida has warehouses of them for sale.
