I'm planning on lifting the body of my 70 chevelle off of the frame soon. Can any one give me some good recomendations on how to lift it off. Such as with 6 guys? A cherry Picker?
Thanks.

Here is how I did it. You just need three friends with engine hoists..

6 guys can hold up an empty body shell while another one rolls the chassis out of the way. Then You can set it down on jacks stands, saw horses, or what ever.

I did mine alone using a floor jack and 4x4's under the rockers, then blocked it. Slow but doable. Check my signature for a few pictures. Do a search for several methods of lifting both from above the body or below.

Thanks for the help. I will hopefully be taking on pulling the body off within the next two weeks.

71SSBB,
How exactly is that wood/whatever attached to the cowl? And, as long as you are answering (hopefully ), how is it attached in the trunk?

I ask because I happen to have two other friends with engine pullers, and it would be a perfect time to call in some favors........

Crankshaft my guess is that the wood is bolted to the cowl-fender bolts. The bolt on top of the cowl right after the hood hinge. On the back my guess would be that its bolted to where the rear bumper bolts to on the rear tail panel??

Man that does look like a real sweet way to drop her back down.

Crankshaft...The wood is three 8 foot 2 by 4s. I screwed the wood on the sides to make the whole thing more rigid. Yes it is bolted to the 7/16 holes in the cowl for the fender. The bolts have to be about 6 inches long so the wood is away from the cowl . This way the wood can't dent the cowl. I just threw this thing together, but it works great. If I make another one I will make it with 3 in. square stock steel.
The rear just has a 2 in. tow strap going through the trunk pan drain holes (after the plugs were taken out of course).I had help , but with this set-up you can do this alone in an hour...Bill
