I've got a 67 that I would like to do a disc brake swap on. I've called around and a whole setup, used is around $500. It dawned on me that i have a 71 firebird esprit sitting in my driveway thats about to get junked that has power discs. I was wondering if i can use the disc parts from the FB on my chevelle. If so what parts should I take before I junk it? What parts will i need to buy to make the FB setup work or should i just spend the $500 for the '68 setup? Lastly, if anyone is looking for FB parts let me know, ill sell them cheap. (formula dual snork hood, AC parts, good rubber nose, wheels etc etc.)
Thanks Dan |

If you do a search on disk brake conversion, I think you will find a lot of posts on using the taller camaro spindles on the chevelle, I think this info would pertain to your swap..from what I remember you need aftermarket upper control arms, and have to machine the lower balljoints to fit...you may end up having as much money in the swap either way. Who wants $500 for a used setup?? Around here they are $250...

You do need aftermarket upper control arms. One of the nice things about using the A-M control arms is the ablity to use 11" and 12" rotors.

Pat, I have the 73+ tall spindles mounted on my stock 70 Malibu suspension. The lower ball joint is the only ill fitting part. Stock upper and lower arms. Not sure on the springs, and only 3 or 4 alignment spacers between frame and a-arms shafts.

Hi Dan,
Malibu Performance offers the most inexpensive way ($175.00) to install either the Firebird spindle with 11" brakes or the Impala spindle with 12" brakes. You keep your stock A-arm. Check out the Tech pages on this site for more information (http://www.chevelles.com/techref/ftecref2.html) You can call me at Malibu Perf if you like, 818 222 6725. Good Luck, Bruce [This message has been edited by Bruce Allison (edited 12-10-99).] |
