does anyone know if 70 Impala disc brakes (spindles, booster, master, hardlines, etc..) will changeover with a 65 impala? do the boosters bolt onto the firewall the same and how about the spindles and calipers (single piston calipers) there wont be a problem with tie rod mounting or anything will there be? thanks, Hugh

A lot of us Chevelle fans also have a soft spot for classic Impalas. I don't know the answer to your question, but this is what I have heard:

1970 discs will swap with 1967 impalas. The 1967 steering arm point to the rear of the car as the steering box and all the linkage is behind the frame crossmember.

Now if this info is correct and a 70 to 67 swap includes the spindle then a 70 would also have the steering arm in the rear.

I looked up how the 65 steering is set up in my 1965 Impala chassis manual and it looks the same as my 67.

If you get any definitive info I would like to know as I am also looking to put discs on my Impala. Four wheel discs on the Chevelle has spoiled me!

A buddy of mine is building up a 66 Biscayne (swapping from 6 cyl to big block, 12 bolt, etc) and he has installed front disc brakes from a 70 Impala. The car is not driveable yet, but he told me that on the 65-66 cars you also need to swap the steering linkage from the donor car (center link, tie rods, and change to that style of idler arm) due to a difference in the length of the steering arms on the spindles.

I plan on doing this swap on my 65 Impala eventually, and I was going to try to use the disc brake master cylnder with a 65 booster, if it will work.

The 1965 through 1970 Big Chevrolets were all based on the same 119" wheelbase perimeter frame. Grab the spindles, too. I'm doubtful that the A-arms were different, but if you've got access to the donor car then git what you can. Don't forget the master cylinder & junction block. BTW, unless it's a wagon, all '70s with power steering used a variable ratio steering box. The '65 used a constant ratio box. If you want it, grab it.

I've got a soft spot for those big 'ol Chevies too!

One thing I forgot to mention in my previous post is that your front wheels have to be disc brake compatible, and be 15" or larger in order to clear the calipers.

CC67, did your friend use the booster and master cylinder off of the '70 Impala as well? Will they work?

I know that I will need new wheels, thanks! I don't need to use the entire steering box do I? I just need to use the idler arm and not the pitman arm?
