Has anyone converted a 68-72 Chevelle to the Global West in (LA)
special upper A-arm? A tall spindal is required. This spindal can be off a 70-81 F body among many others. Your imput is greatly appreciated. This set-up is for better handeling with negative roll in the front end. The Sunkman. |

James Im using Global's uppers with spindles from a 75 full size wagon 12" discs. It made a handler out of my 72 love the way it corners. Also using a Z28 fast ratio steering box.Straight lines or OK for the strip not too many on the road.Remember you cannot use 12" brakes with 14" wheels or drum brake wheels with discs...FRED

Whoa! What's difference between disc brake wheels and drum brake wheels?

Prior to disk brakes becoming popular, the shape of the back side of a factory steel rim was different.
In around 65 the car manufactures changed the shape in order to clear the disk brake caliper. That's what people are talking about when they refer to "disk brake" rims or not. ------------------ Wes. Vann Technical Reference & Wagons sections Gold Member #5 |

so basically, any wheel made after 1965 will be fine on a car with disk brakes?

Havoc,
Stock steel wheels on a '66 fullsize (Biscayne) will NOT bolt onto a disc brake car.Disc brakes first became available on '64(?) or so Corvettes, then in '67 on the other models. It probably depends on the original application of a given wheel. As far as I know ALL "Rally" wheels will work with disc brakes ('67-72 STOCK disc brakes), even the 14x6 Rally wheels. However, these 14" Rallys will NOT clear a 12" disc brake setup such as Fred's. I might be a little fuzzy on the 1st year for the Corvette discs. Thanks. I have installed the Global Kit but I'm still in the middle of the restoration and havn't done the alignment yet. The instructions tell you to use spacers on each end of the pivots and that the larger spacer goes to the front. I have heard that this is the wrong orientation for the spacers and that infact the larger spacer should be in the back to get the proper alignment.
Whats the scoop ? If this is the case I will be out a set of bushings and a nasty call to Global. |
