I have the chance to pick either a "complete" disc set-up from a 71 Monte Carlo or a 70 GTO. Which one is the best choice for a 70 chevelle? What parts make up a complete set-up? (Price is $350 by the way.)Thanks everyone.

Either car is exactly the same. The 70 GTO may have the seperate metering valve under the master cylinder which is concours correct for a 70 Chevelle, but the 71 monte brakes will also work fine. Price seems a little high the complete set around here is $250. A complete setup would include:
Master cylinder and booster
Metering valve and distribution block or Combination valve for 71 and up
Spindles
Rotors
Calipers
Caliper mounting brackets
Mounting brackets on frame for end of brakes hoses
Also on the brake pedal there is a spacer that goes between the pedal and brake light switch (needed but not usally in junkyard kits)

Thanks Bob,
$350 is Canadian so that is about $230-250US.
Is a proportioning valve and metering valve the same thing? Thanks again.

There has been alot of talk about being able to convert drum spindles to disc spindles with some very minor machine work. You may come out with more $$$ in the end if you take this route. Just a thought.

If you go for the 70 GTO set, make sure it has a metering block that has all square edges. Also make sure it has this proportioning valve:

The 71 monte setup should have a more rounded combination proportioning valve/metering block.
