The other day I attempted to mount my TH350 to my new 350 crate, but I heard a LOUD popping sound afterwards. I pulled it apart and noticed the two notches on the tranny-side of the torque converter that match up with the inner gear of the oil pump in the tranny. (that's what i was told) I found some pics online of what it looks like, and I also removed the 8 bolts holding that first plate on, but I can't get the plate off. Any tips? I don't have the $$$ to take it to a tranny shop, and I'd like to do it myself if I can. Thanks for the help guys!

OK,
What it sounds liek happened is you didn't have the torque converter properly seated in the lugs of the pump gears.

You broke the pump gear.
Bad news.
You can remove the pump after getting the 8 bolts out.
The best way to do this is:
get the trans upright so the pump is facing straight up.
You can use a slide hammer with a 3/8"x16 thread in one/both of the two threaded holes you removed the botls from.
There are two threaded holes on each side of the pump the slide hammer can grab...
Only 2 of the 8 though, you'll have to look closely to see them.
You'll want the trans upright so that the intermediate clutches, pressure plate, direct drum, and forward drum don't spill out when you knock the pump loose.

You can get a book from most large bookstores by Ron Sessions "How to Rebuild and Modify the TH350".
It would be very helful to you now, or go to the library and get a Haynes GM Transmission tech book...

Once you get the pump assembly out, there are 5 bolts on the back side holding the two pump halves together, and also retaining the intermediate apply piston and return spring assembly.
You will want to carefully and equally loosen these bolts.
Seperate the pump halves (they will fall apart), and then the gears will be exposed.
You need to get an accurate measurement of the thickness of these gears to the .001".
Then order a replacement set of gears through www.bulkpart.com or Steve Oldani can set you up.. He is a member here.
He may also be able to get you a complete pump assembly that could be an easier answer to your dilema.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot for the Information, I'll give it a try. I'm trying to steer clear of spending more than I have too, I don't have a problem doing the work, I've just never done this before. I'll let you know how it works out!
